  • Family-friendly site at a Staffordshire former army base
  • Just outside the Peak District, five minutes' drive from Leek
  • Play area and picnic tables on site; meet the pet donkeys
There’s an interesting back story to Anzio Heights – this family-friendly Staffordshire site was once an army barracks and Polish resettlement camp, and that means this place now holds heritage status. You’ll see some of the old buildings as you wander around here, but thankfully the vibe is a much friendlier and more welcoming one than you’d have found during the army era. It’s now home to things like a play area and a picnic area, and it’s got nice modern amenities including bathrooms and charging facilities. You’ll also be able to meet the site’s pet donkeys while you’re here. Just outside the quiet village of Blackshaw Moor, this site is well placed for touring the nearby Peak District National Park – perhaps with walks around The Roaches or bike rides along the Manifold Way. Watersports and fishing are also close by at Rudyard Lake, and you can mix up the outdoor activities with trips to places like Peak Wildlife Park or Alton Towers. The pretty spa town of Buxton is 15 minutes’ drive away but your closest town is Leek, five minutes’ drive away and a good source of shops and places to eat. Prefer to get out on foot? A farm shop and pub are within walking distance.

Joanne 1 review

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding campervan pitch (XL)

Liked I never give a 10/10 score because I believe there is always room for improvement, but Anzio Heights is absolutely brilliant. It had everything we needed for our family and our tent box setup.

The owners are lovely, incredibly helpful, and have clearly worked so hard to make the site what it is today. The layout is superb; you can see the kids' play area from every single pitch, and the little swimming pool was a massive hit with the children.

The facilities are great, featuring clean toilets and lovely hot showers. Because it is a non-electric site, you get that authentic "wild camping" atmosphere but with all the essential comforts right around you. We had a superb stay and will definitely be back soon!

Liked We absolutely loved our stay at Anzio Heights! The owners were so friendly and helpful, so straight away we felt at home. Our two boys (4 & 9) really enjoyed playing on the park, visiting the donkeys and splashing about in the pool. They had so much fun and are already excited to come back. Our pitch size was excellent and we had everything we needed. The shower in the morning was lovely and nice and warm. Thank you so much for having us at your adorable little campsite. We will be back soon!

Liked Great little spot. Unsure where to go when we arrived but the owner came out to greet us and show us our spot.

Nice little playground for the children and plenty of picnic benches to sit nearby and supervise.

Toilets and shower rooms were always available when needed but did get wet throughout the day due to the showers and the weather.

Might be good to have a few essentials for sale on site like milk.

From the manager: hi Jennifer/partner thank you coming to stay and for leaving us this fantastic review,it's great to hear you enjoyed your stay even when the weather wasn't at its best...we don't have a shop on site but always encourage people to use the well stocked farm shop just up the road.
we definitely will look forward to seeing you again in the future.
