Spring Lea Park: Camping field

General

  • Well-maintained Shropshire site with high-quality fishing
  • A 20-minute drive to Shrewsbury; Shropshire Hills 15 minutes
  • Tackle and bait shop on site, plus café offering snacks and deliveries

Any anglers out there, this is one for you. The five ponds (both carp and coarse fishing) at Spring Lea Park are set over 12 acres of neat grounds and pathways, with clear signage directing guests to the pools and pegs as well as guiding you through the species found in each pond.

The fishing pools are well stocked with hard-fighting carp, as well as bream, tench, and roach. A limited number of exclusive 24-hour tickets are available for the specimen carp lake, and you can buy tackle and bait from the shop at reception – in short, everything you need for a great day’s fishing.

The Lakeside Café is on hand for locally sourced hot and cold snacks or drinks, and there’s an outdoor terrace – or you can order directly from your peg for delivery right to you at the waterside.

Pick up bits and bobs from Pontesbury shops (five minutes’ drive) to grill on the barbecue, and if self-catering is not for you, you’ve a decent choice of pubs and takeaways there too. For bigger stocking-up missions, the supermarkets of Shrewsbury (20 minutes) await.

Straightforward on-site amenities include a shower and toilet block, and a washing-up area.

    Excellent fishing, plenty of lakes
    Recently refurbished pegs and cafe
Average fish weight is high for a commercial
    Nice, well maintained caravans
Fire pit was a nice touch

    Disliked:

Cafe needs more options but apparently the current one is only temporary. Look forward to revisiting next year to see progress.

The staff were really friendly. The pitch was nice and level. My husband really enjoyed his fishing days. Because we went when the schools were back the site was really quiet. Also just a short walk is a bus stop into Shrewsbury where you can pickup other buses if you want to explore.

    Disliked:

The facilities were very basic but clean only one toilet and shower in both men’s and women’s bathroom. We were told this is going to change as they are going to build some new ones over the winter.

Beautiful setting in a great location

    Disliked:

The grumpy management who didn’t like children playing on the park, making any sound or generally acting like children as apparently it upsets the neighbours! Made to feel very welcome by those sited on seasonal pitches though. Hot water in the grubby shower was intermittent and power to the awning kept tripping.

    The manager!!
Loverly site to stay if there was a change of manager children been told to go inside at 8.20 when they are on HOLIDAY is a massive disappointment.
The toilets and showers could have been cleaner but basic facilities wasn't expecting much. Children not aloud a water fight but permanent pitches were aloud a slip and slide attached to the only water supply.
Would not recommend if you have children it seemed the manager didn't like them playing or even having fun.
