  • An 80-acre site with well-spaced pitches and pretty countryside views
  • In the stunning mid Shropshire Hills; half hour drive to Shrewsbury
  • Pick-your-own spot stays on a nearly-wild park run by helpful owners
Venture to Lower Vessons Farm for a nearly-wild experience – free from the risk of an angry farmer telling you to move on halfway through the night – at a site on 80 acres of land in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The scenery at this park is stunning: see pics, then choose your spot in the 16 acres of dense woodland or on one of the vast fields. According to the owners, the main attraction here is having a back-to-nature break without any noisy neighbours to worry about (and they've spaced the pitches a whopping 50 metres apart to make sure that's the case…). Given the level of seclusion, there are no roads on site; access is over grass and campervans are welcome. If the weather causes problems, the owners and their vehicles are on hand to help get you on and off the grounds. While the idea of being stuck at this site is actually rather a smashing one, you won’t really want to be restricted from roaming around top Shropshire destinations like Shrewbury (half an hour’s drive away) and Ludlow (an hour). For explores without the car, Eastridge Woods (15 minutes’ walk) is well known for hosting mountain bike competitions and has trails that are free to use whether you’re a beginner or expert cyclist. If Lower Vessons’ rural location has you questioning where on earth you’ll find food, the answer is that it won’t be much bother – the nearest pub is a mile away and takeaways and restaurants are within a couple of miles. As part of the wild experience, this site welcomes campfires, barbecues and dogs but does not have showers.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked: Quiet site, lots of room. Views are superb!

Disliked: Long walk to get water. Bins full, no recycling. Pitches all slope

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We send a detailed email to clients advising them to bring large water carriers with them , each morning we collect empty carriers fill them and return to the pitch , we recognise this will not suit everyone but most accept the amount of space and privacy we give our clients make it impractical to provide a water supply close to each of our pitches which are approximately 50 meters apart so would require a stand pipe to each pitch which we don’t feel is in keeping with the high profile Natural experience we offer . All recycling is done by our bin provider I did notice on the occasion mentioned clients had left rubbish next to a full bin rather than walk aprox 5 meters to another half empty bin , both bins are now next to each other !

Non-electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked: Very friendly and helpful host. Beautiful view from the field. Clean portable toilets.

Disliked: Not flat pitches.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: This review is factually incorrect we have flat pitches I agree some are gently sloping but the above comment is incorrect in that it implies none of our pitches are flat we offer a semi wild camping experience which in its self may remind clients very few fields are snooker table flat fortunately as you can see from the majority of the reviews we get that are 10/10 slopping pitches are seldom a problem most clients are astounded by the amount of space and privacy we offer between pitches Nigel

Non-electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked: Amazing views, huge pitches, clean toilets, access to footpath and woodland, ability to have a fire.

Disliked: Sloping pitch (would be fine with chocks), long bumpy track for access (small cars may struggle).

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: In the past we kept the long access track smooth and had issues with people going to fast as in 30 plus mph our speed limit is clearly signposted at 5 mph we have found the most efficient way to reduce speed is to keep the surface finish quite rough no potholes but not smooth , I try to give people options on our pitches some of those with the more stunning views may need chocks it is a personal taste issue usually we can provide some blocks of wood if needed , given we promote our site as a more wild experience we would recommend our clients carry levelling facilities with them just in case our flat pitches are not to there liking Thanks Nigel

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Remote location with excellent views and peaceful surroundings. Dawn chorus by birds was amazing. Plenty of walking from campsite.

Disliked: 1 field only offered - no 80 acres! The field is steep slope with the ground very rough so not good for tents, chemical toilet with no water, water tap located in separate field away from pitch sites. Value for money compared to other site … 1-10 =1

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Well I am truly shocked by this review I can’t recall having a 2 before the weather was very trying this weekend but I got no negative feedback from any of our guests if we do something wrong I want to know so changes can be made on my twice daily visits to all pitches I ask if all is ok , all was good with everyone . We didn’t have any solo guests on this weekend ! All were couples or families 🤔 We offered 3 fields over 35 acres Portaloos are clearly stated in our details here they come with Gell hand cleaner we keep them very clean they are constantly checked . Our pitches are huge and a lot of work is done to make them as smooth as possible no one complained , our land is gently sloping but our pitches are mostly flat or have flat areas within them . All guests are made aware in our welcome text message of the water run we do and all are advised to bring large carriers with them for us to collect , fill and return to them each morning of there stay . We do our best to offer a high standard of service whilst retaining the very natural aspects and living with Nature experience combined with the space and privacy we offer and I thank this client for his very positive review on the natural elements he experienced here . We advise all potential clients to read our description fully to avoid any disappointments upon arrival or during there back to Nature experience stay with us . Nigel
