What customers say

A peaceful, family-run campsite with level pitches and stunning dark skies for stargazing. Owners Jack and Mandy are highly praised for their friendly, helpful nature and thoughtful touches like an honesty shop and free WiFi. Facilities are clean and adequate, with recent updates including additional toilets, though the single shower operates on £1 coins. Access roads are narrow. Ideal for those seeking tranquility and nature.

Liked Quiet site. Lovely location. Great if yoy like stargazing. Excellent wifi signal. Only one shower which is £1 for 4 minutes but its good shower. Owners are friendly and helpful.

Disliked No hot water at washing up area. Also only one sink and lots of nettles under it. These need cutting back. Kids, especially could get settled. The owners need to install a better washing up area.

Campsite is reached down a very narrow lane so just be aware of it.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Excellent rural site, has good clean amenities with lots of little touches obviously thought about by the hosts, the hosts are friendly, welcoming and readily available if you need any help or just to say hi, beautiful settling with only the sounds of nature and the darkest sky at night for star gazing or just sitting in peace. Hot clean shower (£4 for 4 mins, so don’t forget your pennies!) excellent communication from the hosts before and during our stay - even noticing I had booked the wrong dates to the rest of our party and reaching out to fix my error! Make sure you put the property name into the sat nav along with the postcode and won’t miss it.

Disliked Nothing to dislike!

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked The loveliest campsite. Very friendly owners who have put a lot of thought into small touches - the gentleman saw my toddler colouring and brought him a large blackboard and chalks which he was thrilled with. Wonderfully quiet and peaceful, facilities are basic but clean and everything you need is there.

Disliked Just that we only stayed one night, not two!

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We stayed here for a few nights and genuinely had a great experience. The campsite has a really relaxed, peaceful atmosphere and feels like a proper escape from the busy day-to-day. Everything was clean and well looked after, including the facilities, which were regularly maintained.

The hosts were friendly and welcoming without being intrusive, and it was clear they take pride in the site. The pitches were spacious, and there was plenty of room to enjoy the surroundings. One of the highlights was sitting outside in the evening and looking up at the stars—the dark skies here are amazing.

If I had to pick one small thing, it would be that the access roads are a bit narrow, but that's pretty typical for rural campsites and didn't take away from the experience.

Overall, we'd definitely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Along the Milky Way Campsite to anyone looking for a quiet, scenic place to unwind.

Local attractions

There are plenty of options for walks in this area, whether you choose to stay local or head out to a hotspot like Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (40 minutes’ drive). The Offa’s Dyke Path is a popular trail too, and you can find out more about it at the Offa’s Dyke Centre in Knighton (10 minutes). As well as country rambles, the area has some lovely urban strolls. You may like to start in Clun (10 minutes) to see the 15th-century packhorse bridge and the ruins of Clun Castle. Hopton Castle (20 minutes) and Stokesay Castle (25 minutes) are also worth visiting, and the latter is close to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre (25 minutes), a useful hub of information and activities. Shrewsbury (an hour) is a pretty town to wander around, but if you don’t want to drive that far you may prefer Ludlow (35 minutes) – it’s got a splendid medieval castle and has developed a reputation as a foodie hotspot thanks to its market, indie food businesses and annual food festival.
