Setting your sights on a scenic walking break in the Shropshire Hills? Bag a pitch at Along The Milky Way and you’ll be in prime position to get out along the trails of this lovely rural area. This simple pop-up site sits alongside the river Redlake about 10 minutes’ drive from the towns of Clun (in England) and Knighton (just over the border in Wales). It’s easily accessed from the A488, a couple of minutes’ drive away, and there’s a footpath just across the road from the camping field so you’ll be able to get straight out for strolls. Whether you’re planning to wander along the riverbank, explore some of the Offa’s Dyke Path or amble around the best historic towns in Shropshire, you’ll be well placed at this quiet little site, which is a little bit away from some of the busiest parts of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Dogs are welcome to join you here as long as they promise to be well behaved around the wildlife that lives on and around the site. Things have been kept simple on site, with just toilets and showers on the facilities front. The real bonus of this approach is that it makes sure there’s no light pollution to spoil your evenings of stargazing – the skies around often have some dazzling displays (hence the name of the site…) Both Clun and Knighton have plenty of amenities to keep you fed and watered – between them they muster several pubs, cafés, takeaways and shops, and Knighton also has a railway station for travels further afield.

Gostou This gorgeous dog friendly campsite is situated in a stunning part of the Shropshire countryside. Surrounded by beautiful hills, sheep and wildlife. The campsite has spacious pitches, well kept facilities (hot showers, toilets and washing up station). It was a perfect spot to relax and unwind for a weekend. We loved chatting to both Jack and Mandy (the owners), and we will certainly return in the future. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this gem of a campsite to all.

Gostou Beautifully quiet, clean and welcoming site. Simple facilities (2x toilets / 1 shower), small sale of logs / essentials. The owners Mandy & Jack are so friendly and they’ve created wonderful place for those who appreciate quiet, nature and back to basics. We enjoyed watching a meteor shower in the clear skies at night. Just a genuinely beautiful unspoiled location. We stayed in a self contained campervan with EHU on a well laid out grass pitch. Fresh water and Elsan disposal included.

Gostou Very good size pitches, nice location, very clean tidy site. Very good basic facilities and good base for exploring the area. Nice night sky with not very much light polution. If you don't like basic camping then find a hotel? Wae loved this place.

Gostou I really like this site. It was small and quiet and had everything you really needed for camping plus Wi-Fi!

Não gostou I’d recommend bringing a roll of blue roll just because one of the toilets is much more popular than the other and runs out quickly.

Gostou Lovely quiet site in the country between Clun and Knighton. Both really quaint villages. The Horse and Jockey in Knighton is highly recommended.
Toilet and shower very clean. It's £1.00 per 4 mins for shower. The owners are very helpful and friendly.
Peaceful nights sleep and wish we could have stayed longer. We will return!

Gostou Absolutely fantastic, amazing site with incredibly caring owners. A true hidden gem! We adored the view of the farmland and the sound of the sheep, spotting a few red Kite's flying over the trees. Not to mention, there's nothing more amazing than the night sky views and casual conversation we had with one another and other visitors too.

The owners even came out on our last evening, we sat around a campfire with our neighbour tent and we all had fun looking at the milky way (for which this site is named) together and the various satellites that flew overhead - many of which are for navigation purposes, but also seeing a few shooting stars.

I'd like to advise there is no play area and it is on working farmland, so it is important that you occupy your children. We had no issues with this, it was one of the reasons we booked. There is no play area or anything but a large field that children can relax and unwind as well. My 12 and two 9 yr olds were more than satisfied and we spent 5 days there.

Não gostou Nothing at all. It's a small cosy site with shared facilities and every person staying was aware of this, being mindful of showers, bathrooms etc. Nothing at all to dislike!

Atrações locais

There are plenty of options for walks in this area, whether you choose to stay local or head out to a hotspot like Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (40 minutes’ drive). The Offa’s Dyke Path is a popular trail too, and you can find out more about it at the Offa’s Dyke Centre in Knighton (10 minutes). As well as country rambles, the area has some lovely urban strolls. You may like to start in Clun (10 minutes) to see the 15th-century packhorse bridge and the ruins of Clun Castle. Hopton Castle (20 minutes) and Stokesay Castle (25 minutes) are also worth visiting, and the latter is close to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre (25 minutes), a useful hub of information and activities. Shrewsbury (an hour) is a pretty town to wander around, but if you don’t want to drive that far you may prefer Ludlow (35 minutes) – it’s got a splendid medieval castle and has developed a reputation as a foodie hotspot thanks to its market, indie food businesses and annual food festival.
