  • Luxurious adults-only touring park with easy access from the A49
  • A 15-minute drive to Shrewsbury, Attingham Park or Carding Mill Valley
  • Peaceful dog-friendly site 10 minutes' walk from Dorrington village
Smart Shropshire stays are what’s on offer at Stoney Acres Luxury Holiday Park, a peaceful adults-only touring site in a handy location just off the A49 about 15 minutes’ drive south of Shrewsbury. Easy access to the main road means that it’s simple to get out and explore your surroundings from this park, whether you’re heading up into town, going south into the Shropshire Hills National Landscape or aiming to take in places like Ludlow and the museums of Ironbridge. Once you’ve parked up on site, you can leave the car behind and get around by public transport if you prefer. Handy bus services to Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Church Stretton leave from the nearby village of Dorrington (10 minutes’ walk away). There are plenty more useful things in the village too – it’s got a village shop, a butchers, a restaurant and a gastropub to make mealtimes easy (whether you’re doing your own cooking or eating out). Back on site, you’ll be staying at a pretty park with landscaped grounds and the extra level of peace you get from a child-free environment. As the name suggests, everything here has been designed to give a sense of luxury to your stay – the bathrooms, for example, have underfloor heating, rainfall showers and granite worktops, along with handy extras like hair dryers. Each pitch has a 16-amp electric supply, a drinking water and waste water facility and a digital TV hookup, and you’ll also have access to shared facilities including a laundry room, ultrafast fibre wifi and a dog wash station to avoid muddy paws after walks with your four-legged pal. The modern design also means this park is fully accessible to guests with disabilities.

Liked: Excellent luxury shower block and on pitch services. Friendly staff

Disliked: Location is between a busy A road with lorries rushing past, a railway line and, worst of all, a concrete crushing/ aggregate works. This makes it very noisy Narrow path alongside busy road to village makes walking there uncomfortable At rear of site wi fi kept dropping but that’s probably just teething issues with new site.

Liked: We have been caravanning for 8 years and have never encountered such clean, spotless and good facilities. The showers were incredible. Very clean and bright site. Very secure and well located for Shrewsbury and further afield. The owners were helpful and accommodating. Even though it's only been open a few months, they were fully booked except for one pitch.

Disliked: Nothing at all

Liked: Everything! Fabulous site, lovely hosts, spotlessly clean shower and laundry facilities, in fact the showers are the best we’ve seen, I won’t normally use showers on sites because I can’t stand having nowhere to put my things and having to continuously press a button every 5 seconds and freezing ! These were luxury shower rooms with lovely hot proper showers. Pitches are nice and big, definitely will be going again.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch (large)

Liked: This is a new site, it is small and has obviously had a lot of money invested into it. The facilities are probably the best we’ve ever seen. Gorgeous showers with plenty of hot water. There is a great pub a 10 minute walk away, but take a torch for walking back, there is no lighting on the main road. The owners are lovely and very friendly.

Disliked: The WiFi was hit and miss when we were there, but there had been a problem with it. There is no phone signal. There is a lot of environmental noise, the site is located next to an aggregate yard, a busy main road and a railway line. I would recommend ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper.

Local attractions

The Shropshire Hills National Landscape is well known as a lovely place for a walk, and you’ll be in prime position to explore from Stoney Acres. Some of the best known places to head for are Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (15 minutes’ drive) and the Stiperstones National Nature Reserve (35 minutes), but there are plenty of quieter trails to seek out too. There are lots of historic locations to visit around this area too – perhaps you’d like to stroll around the grounds of Attingham Park Estate (15 minutes), step further back in time at Wroxeter Roman City (15 minutes) or get to know the various museums of Ironbridge Gorge (half an hour), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of the Industrial Revolution. For more days out, find boat trips and canoe hire in Shrewsbury (15 minutes) or head south to Ludlow (35 minutes) to browse its foodie shops, tour its gin distillery and see its ruined castle.
