  • Peaceful family-friendly site on the banks of the River Severn
  • Shrewsbury sights, restaurants and shops within 15 minutes' walk
  • Half an hour from Ironbridge Gorge and the Shropshire Hills
In need of an escape? Settle in at Camping at West Midlands Showground, a family-friendly Shropshire site less than 15 minutes’ walk from Shrewsbury town centre, where tourist sites and shopping are within easy reach and there’s plenty of green space for kids and the dogs to run around on. Peaceful urban getaways are a dream here: days can be spent wandering the winding medieval streets of Shrewsbury, exploring castle and abbey, strolling around gardens and parks, following the Darwin Town Trail (the evolutionist was born here) and taking boating trips on the Severn. Anyone fishing for a good time should swim back to site and cast a line in the Severn. Part of the Greenhous West Mid Showground, the site’s facilities are pretty basic, but it does have its own fishing rights – plus it's well set for getting the most out of Shropshire and Shrewsbury explores, and finding fab eateries, pubs and ways to pass the time will be a piece of cake. Speaking of cake, there are plenty of restaurants in Shrewsbury for local bites, and barbecues are welcome on site for cooking more substantial meals.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked The pitches are very well kept and importantly flat. It was really easy to check in and we were shown around with ease. Showers were not warm on first inspection but the site manager knocked on to say he had fixed it. We really enjoyed our stay, so close to the town centre.

We paid £70 for two nights electric hook up. Water was frozen.

Liked Nothing

Disliked There was no reception. We were told that the toilets were being worked on so there was a porta style system of 4 toilets and showers. These were filthy and freezing cold. It is January and the heating was not on how we were expected to have a shower in such conditions is beyond me.

From the manager: We are sorry you didnt have an enjoyable stay - although we are a litle confused as the review above this one and below it all commented on how well the shower facilities were , yes we became aware of an issue as reported but was soon easily rectified (this after a minus 7 degree night) - we dont encourage people to use the static facilities this time of year and all our customers are encouraged to use the £40k bespoke shower and toilet facility, we are not a campsite, but a Showground with some facilities as described in our details, but all our guests are welcomed with a welcome pack and a number that can be contacted should there be any problems.

You were in fact welcome by myself who explained everything to you on your arrival, it is always disapointing when we provide all the information to our guests, who then only see fit to "eat the full course then complain afterwards", we belive we provide excelent value for money considering our location to Shrewsbury, but if you are looking for 3 - 5 star then we are not your campsite, but with avery high customer return rate, we must be doing something right.

For Clarity

After commission you paid us £59.50
After cost of sales at an industry standard of 35%
That leaves us with £38.68 divided by 2 nights is £19.34 divided by 2 people is £9.67 per person per night.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked The space we had and location to Shrewsbury

Disliked The place, the facilities were awful, the buildings on site were derelict and the price

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are really dispointed with this comment - I spoke to you and your daughter insisted on parking on the grass miles away from the facilities, despite my best efforts to encourage you to move to a better spot and not on the grass in the mud !

We are a Showground that is over 150 years old with historic buildings - I guess you didnt use the £40k bespoke shower and toilet facility.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Great location. 15 min walk to centre
Basic facilities but wouldnt put me off staying again.

Disliked Radiators not on in toilets so was cold when going for a shower. A mat /wooden mat to stand on when you come out of the shower would be good

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked close walk into Shrewsbury Town.

Disliked we were informed on arrival that the site had plumbing . You should have been notified and we should have been ininformed BEFORE travel.

We only had a temporary portacabin shower and toilet block, normally ok, but no heating inside, radiators were there, but were stone cold. No washing of hands facility after using toilet ( not good ) Not enough ventilation, everything steamed up, floors became slippy and wet, not good when you are trying to get dried after shower. No washing up facility with hot water. Cost us £82 for 2 nights. On this occasion, not value for the money paid. whether we use Pitch up again remains to be seen, at the moment , probably not. Mr Henry Green

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We have no idea what you are talking about plumbing ! The temporary portacabin is a £40k bespoke toilet and shower facilty that we can move out of the way of the mutiple flooding events we have.

No hand Washing facilities? Is really confusing to us, situated right next to the toilet is a large hand basin with hot and cold running water, Perhaps we should reccomend a visit to a well known opticians, we have, so there was no need to use capital letters as we can read your review perfectly well.

We have a wash up area as detailed in your welcome pack that has hot running water.
There is a window in each of the Shower and toilet cubicles that can vent the area easily - once the Shower is on the commen complaint that it is too warm .

As detailed above with our costs it works to be around £9.50 per adult night stay which we belive is very good value for money, Pitch up take 15% commision on booking so the facility has nothing to do with them.

Local attractions

Once Shrewsbury has been well and truly explored (don’t forget a pitstop at The Mount, birthplace of Charles Darwin), venturing out into nature will be a welcome break from bricks and mortar. The site is a little over half an hour’s drive from the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where scenic wanders, horse riding, gliding and paragliding are the order of the day. If those walking boots haven’t seen enough action, make tracks for Buttington (35 minutes' drive) to join the Offa’s Dyke long-distance path and follow 177 miles of England-Wales border – alternatively, rest weary legs with a scenic boat tour along the Severn, leaving 15 minutes away. There’s plenty of history hereabouts, so dive right in with a look inside the fab 18th-century mansion at Attingham Park (and a stroll around the gardens and parkland) or a stop at the spectacular Sunnycroft villa in nearby Telford. Go from finery to industry by trundling along to the Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO site to explore the birthplace of the industrial revolution, making time for the recreated Victorian town of Blists Hill, the Coalport China Museum and the world’s first ever cast-iron bridge. Stay in the past (the very, very distant past) with a trip to Wroxeter Roman City and Vineyard, or return to the present with some modern urban days: Telford is half an hour away and has a snowboard and skiing centre that should keep families entertained, while Birmingham Is a little over an hour and a half from base if a real big-city vibe is needed.
