  • Scenic site in the Shropshire countryside, five miles from Oswestry
  • Well-equipped shared kitchens, lounge and bathroom block
  • Rural ex-farm set up with animals and views in every direction
Katrina, aka Mrs B at Barnutopia, fell in love with Tanycoed farm the moment she first saw it, tucked in the stunning, green Shropshire countryside. This is where she has created Barnutopia, set in the grounds of the main farmhouse and stable block, with open fields and gorgeous views in every direction. The stable block houses the bathrooms with toilets, hand basins and unlimited hot water for showers. Elsewhere, the guest kitchens (the Cookhouse, the Kitchen Shack and the Galley) are equipped with everything you need for self-catering: hot and cold water, fridges, freezers, food prep areas, kettles, toasters, microwaves, gas hobs, an oven, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery, as well as a nice and cosy seating area. Prefer not to cook? Takeaways are easy to order to this location using your mobile phone. Big supermarkets are five miles away (just a 10-minute drive) in the historic market town of Oswestry. Half a mile away (a 20-minute walk), in the village of Llansilin in the Welsh county of Powys, there is a pub that serves what's considered to be one of the tastiest Sunday lunches in the area. Mrs B's mission is simple: to make sure Barnutopia has everything you need for a comfy stay. She lives on site and is available to help out wherever possible if there's anything you need. Well-behaved dogs are welcome here, but as the farm is surrounded by livestock (miniature Hereford bullocks, Zwartbles sheep and a pig, plus four cats and a dog), they must be kept on a lead at all times.

What customers say

Guests praise the site's great people, views, huts, and atmosphere, with many enjoying the fairy lights and fire pits. However, some visitors found the accommodation tired and dated, not matching pictures. Issues with noisy guests, a poor access road, and a swollen door were reported. Kitchens and shared equipment could also benefit from renovation and expansion.

Ranch House Ray cabin (six person)

Liked Not a great deal, as everything was tired and dated and didn’t match the pictures

Disliked No real introduction to the campsite, When other guests were very noisy past the requested quiet time nothing was done about it. Road to site is awful. Door swelled and couldn’t shut it properly.
