10-amp electric grass pitch

Liked We visited the site for a weekend with our daughter and son in law and were not disappointed. The site is clean, tidy and well maintained. The small but well stocked pond gave us a few hours of pleasure 😁 facilities are excellent, clean, heated and plenty of consumables. Lovely and quiet allowing us to relax and unwind in a beautiful part of the country. It’s a short and pleasant walk to Ellesmere allowing us to leave the cars and not have to worry about parking or missing anything!!

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked We’re fairly local to the site and are familiar with its location. However, we were pleasantly surprised with just how nice it is. The site is divided into 3 fields which makes it feel quite cosy and no doubt helps shelter it from the wind being in an elevated position. We were put up in the corner of the third field which gave us an excellent view of the surrounding countryside. We were placed adjacent to the recently constructed excellent shower and toilet block which was convenient and quite secluded. The hard standing was nice, level and easy to manoeuvre into, within easy reach of the hook up. We looked down over the fishpond and towards Ellesmere which is within easy walking distance with a gate from field 3 leading directly towards it. Apart from one recent housing estate, that was at quite a distance Ellesmere is nevertheless hardly visible and you do feel like you’re out in the countryside. Noise from the road wasn’t intrusive. Robin the owner who came to say hello and collect the balance of his fee was friendly, approachable and informative.

Being quite late season and a lot of the site housing seasonal pitches for touring caravans, the vibe was very quiet and chilled. This is an ‘adult only’ site so should still be pretty mellow even in the school holidays.

In the evening we walked into Ellesmere and had a nice Indian meal at the Asian Spice restaurant and in the afternoon just chilled at the campsite. All in all a nice experience and it felt like a proper mini getaway even though we are very familiar with Ellesmere. A different perspective I guess!

Disliked Very little. A shame about the new housing estate slightly spoiling the view but that’s progress I guess?!

Liked Lovely adults only site. The toilets and shower blocks are immaculate and the owner very helpful. We arrived a bit early, but he still allowed us on the pitch. A short walking distance into Ellsmere, we ate in the red lion, the food was good and large potions. They had a pool table and darts in the back room and there is also an outside seating area. Would definitely recommend staying at this campsite.

16-amp electric grass pitch

Liked Good well spaced flat pitches, clean toilet and shower blocks. Local vendors arrived at the pitch Friday evening selling honey and meats. Short walk into town. Water and electric points close to pitches.

Disliked Dogs barking and off leads at times despite signs stating to keep them on leads but nothing to do with the site.

16-amp electric grass pitch

Liked Nice site, well spaced out , owners really nice, can't comment on shower block as did not use, only 20min walk into town, easy route, sheep cows horses to look at ,honey lady came one day selling items, and the butcher van came too, pizza sometimes on site , kebab house and chinese take away dlv for small cost , overall a very pleasant stay and very reasonably on price

Disliked Only thing we thought is the hedges/trees on sharp bend passed the farm coming in on the right could be trimmed to make it a little clearer for coming in and stop catching caravan, but could be due to time of year so not allowed to cut them, apart from that nothing else

Liked Amazing site. We were in field 1, great views. Site is lovely, quiet, clean and plenty of room on pitches. Had a local butcher, lady with honey and there was supposed to be a pizza guy but sadly he couldn’t make it. Toilets and showers are clean and tidy, just what you need. 10/10 all round.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked The owner was very nice and the facilities were good with excellent views across the countryside. We were in Field 1 and the pitches hard and grass standing were very spaced.
The site was quiet and the walk into Ellesmere across the field was nice, lovely to go into a currently unspoilt market town.

Disliked Not enough light in the dishwashing area and concern with very hot water - no hot water signs. Would have been nice to have option of wifi

Liked Loved the peace and quiet, we were met by Robin, who, after explaining the site layout , offered us a choice of pitches in field one. He even offered us help setting up when he noticed that I was disabled. Whilst this offer was politely declined, we did ask for recommendations regarding eating out in Ellesmere, and I would urge everyone to consider his advice !!!!

Disliked Nothing to dislike on this superbly run site

Local attractions

The peaty, boggy habitat of Fenn’s, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve (25 minutes’ drive) attracts assorted wildlife, from birds of prey and waders to lizards and colourful butterflies. There are far-reaching views of the wetlands from the top of the five-metre Mammoth Tower. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (25 minutes) was constructed in the early 1800s to allow the Llangollen branch of the Shropshire Union Canal to cross the River Dee. You’ll need a head for heights to stroll along its path, but there are splendid views of the Welsh countryside to be had from 38 metres above ground. And you might see a barge or two navigating the aqueduct’s waters… Built by the Romans, Chester (50 minutes) is surrounded by centuries-old defensive walls with elevated walkways. The city’s ancient heritage can also be seen at the Roman Amphitheatre and at the 12th-century Agricola Tower, a stone gateway with a frescoed chapel. Shropshire's county town of Shrewsbury (35 minutes) is worth a trip too, for a stroll around the castle and abbey and a boat trip along the River Severn.
