  • Adults-only touring park 15 minutes’ drive from Oakham in Rutland
  • Aqua Park Rutland 15 minutes’ drive, and Burghley House 20 minutes
  • Free use of coarse-fishing lakes; woodland walks and wildlife on site
Here’s a chance to hone your fishing skills at Stretton Lakes Touring Park, an adults-only site set in 120 acres of farmland, 15 minutes’ drive from Oakham in the middle of Rutland countryside. All campsite guests have free angling on the park’s seven coarse-fishing lakes – and you don’t need to walk very far, as there’s fishing right in front of every south-facing, hardstanding lakeside pitch. Not too enamoured of fishing? The tourer pitches are surrounded by loads of footpaths, excellent for wanderings with – or without – any accompanying dogs (if your pet gets muddy, don’t fret as the site has its own dedicated canine showers). You’re welcome to get lost in neighbouring Stretton and George Henry woods, and if you tread quietly on your way, you may get to see the fallow deer that also sometimes graze around the pitches. There are two award-winning pubs within walking distance, so you can forget about driving and enjoy a big night out. Book well ahead of time and have a wander down to Stretton or Clipsham villages (both 20 minutes’ walk) for gourmet dining treats. A few practical details now: modern shower facilities are top-notch, with rainfall showers in private cubicles, smart oak washstands and stone basins. You can keep on top of the laundry too, thanks to on-site washing machines and tumble dryers.

Pitches are generously sized, level, and well-serviced, offering lovely lake views. The site is very well-maintained, with excellent dog walking areas and opportunities for fishing. Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Extremely clean site and superb showers/toilet area. Nice helpful staff (thanks, Tracey). Pitches are spacious in themselves but rather close to adjacent ones.
Nice entertainment provided by the ducks and geese!

Disliked It’s almost impossible to manoeuvre a caravan into the pitch without crossing the grass verges (which we’d understandably been asked to avoid doing) unless you have a motor-mover.
Just be aware that there aren’t any pubs or restaurants within walking distance and walking along the local roads would be dangerous (no pavement).

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Every pitch faced a lake which was lovely. You could sit and watch the ducks and geese. Beautiful facilities. Spotlessly clean and fresh. Great dog exercise field with massive tree truck logs to do some agility training. Friendly and welcoming. Immaculate site. Highly recommended

Disliked The geese were very noisy at night. If you are a light sleeper they may disturb you.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Easy to find, very spacious pitches.
Overlooking the lake, very peaceful.
The shower rooms are really lovely, underfloor heating, overhead large showers . Laundry facilities, sinks etc indoors.
Superb dog field. Fully fenced in. The reception were very helpful providing a lot of information about the site and the area.
Would highly recommend a visit to Stamford. Lovely English town with lots of shops and eatery.

Disliked We went in January. So lots of empty pitches so we were very surprised to find ourselves stuck in the middle of a run of 5 other visitors. Why we were not spread out whilst the opportunity was available we don't know but we would have loved to have had a pitch away from all the others.

Liked Absolutely love how quiet and self contained this site is.
This is by far one of the most serene places we have ever stopped at. Very highly recommend!
The cleanest, warmest and most welcoming showers and toilet facilities I have ever came across.
All of the staff are super friendly and very welcoming.
If you are looking for somewhere quiet, calm and relaxing then this is absolutely the place for you. I am a very light sleeper and there was absolutely nothing that woke me at any point.
An absolute gem.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike if you want peace and quiet

Local attractions

The UK’s smallest county might be tiny in stature but it certainly packs a sightseeing punch. The local town of Stamford (15 minutes' drive) is known for its handsome Georgian architecture, while pretty Oakham (also 15 minutes) has a Norman castle as well as loads of stylish shops if you’re looking to offload some cash. If it’s picnic weather, journey to Melton Mowbray (25 minutes) to pick up a couple of the local pork pies to eat on your travels. For active adventures, Rutland Water hosts an inflatable assault course at Aqua Park Rutland (15 minutes), dinghy sailing at Rutland Sailing Club and waterside golf at a nine-hole course (both 20 minutes). Trout fishing and birdwatching for teals, herons and rare ospreys are also possible around the reservoir’s shoreline. Have a wander up to the Iron Age fort at Burrough Hill (half an hour) for far-reaching views across Rutland, and in summer, take a guided tour of ornate Burghley House (20 minutes), an impressive Tudor-era mansion with Capability Brown-designed gardens.
