Huckleberry Farm

Huckleberry Farm: The Horsebox in the woods (photo added by manager on 24/08/2023)

General

  • Pop-up campsite on a family-run smallholding in rural Oxfordshire
  • A 10-minute drive to Bicester Village and Blenheim Palace
  • Farm animals and pony rides on site; five minutes’ drive to a pub

City strolls and countryside adventures are easily combined when you stay at Huckleberry Farm – this pop-up site is in a properly rural spot on a family smallholding in the Oxfordshire countryside but it's only 20 minutes' drive from Oxford.

Dogs and kids are welcome down on the farm, and there are all sorts of adventures to be had wandering through the woods and keeping your eyes open for wildlife. The owners are happy for everyone to fuss the resident ponies and sheep (just keep your canine chums on a lead around them, please), and with the help of some of their feathered friends, you might be able to buy free-range eggs for morning fry ups. Pony rides can be booked on site (for an extra charge) once you've arrived.

As this is a pop-up site, facilities have been kept on the simple side, but guests have access to a portable toilet and access to drinking water. There’s no electricity so be sure to bring torches from home to see your way back to your pitch after dark. The owners say there is some road noise from the A34 bypass a couple of fields away, but the air on site is clear, wholesome and fresh, and the outlook is totally rural.

If you’re in need of essentials, head for the nearest village: Bletchington (five minutes’ drive) has a handy store as well as a local pub. Bicester (15 minutes) is the place for serious stocking up, with a full range of shops as well as eateries.

    The owners were really friendly.

    Disliked:

This horse box wasn't suitable for accomodation purpose. It was cold, with no door, and exposed nails above your head in the bunk.

From the manager...

Ouch, such a damning review. The horsebox was exactly that a year ago and whilst the tin interior is riveted together there are no nails thank you.

The flooring, curtains, duvets, pillow, duvet covers, whistling kettle, gas hob, gas bottles, cutlery & all other implements were brand new and so it's disappointing that my efforts were wholly unnoticed

The Horsebox is accurately represented in the photographs on the listing. We also provided free wood for the fire and you had sole use of an enclosed private corner of woodland. I am sorry that you were expecting so much more

Thankyou for supporting a small business that partially funds our pony therapy sessions

Local attractions

What a handy location. You’re all set for day trips to Oxford (20 minutes’ drive) to explore the hallowed delights of the Ashmolean Museum and tour the university colleges. Other regal cultural attractions hereabouts include the ginormous Blenheim Palace (10 minutes) with an opulent interior to discover and miles of walks in its extensive Capability Brown-designed gardens.

Kids behaving? Spoil them with a day out at Cotswold Farm Park (50 minutes), home of TV’s Adam Henson, to pet newborn lambs (seasonal, usually spring) in the animal barn or feed Suffolk Punch horses and greedy goats on the Rare Breeds Trail. Or how about hands-on encounters (and perfectly safe) with crocs at Crocodiles of the World (half an hour)?

Shoppers, you’ve arrived in heaven. Trawl through the designer stores at Bicester Village outlet (10 minutes) for all manner of bargain wardrobe updates, or pay a visit Diddly Squat Farm Shop (half an hour), made famous by another celeb, this time Jeremy Clarkson, to pick up local Cotswolds produce like honey, chutneys and salad oils.
