  • Well-kept adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from Banbury, Oxfordshire
  • Silverstone Circuit 20 minutes’ drive; Blenheim Palace 40 minutes
  • Dog-friendly pitches with pubs and cafés 20 minutes’ walk away
If you’re looking for a peaceful and adults-only Oxfordshire escape, the tourer site at Highlands (10 minutes’ drive from Banbury) fits the bill very well. It’s easy to get to, being five minutes’ drive from junction 11 on the M40 and just off the A361, and has a handful of pitches with electric hook-ups in a well-maintained field sheltered by mature trees. Any doggy companions are welcome on site, and you can all set out for long meanders along the pretty Oxford Canal (20 minutes’ walk). If you’d like to be a bit more active, try a round of golf, playing tennis or kayaking on the River Cherwell (all within five minutes’ drive). For a change of scenery, there are several pubs and cafés in riverside Cropredy, a pretty village with thatched cottages and site of a well-known music festival held every August. It's a 20-minute walk from the site to Cropredy, although the lanes are narrow and windy in places, so you might prefer to drive or cycle there. Spotless facilities on site include toilets and a shower, a washing-up area, fresh water supply and Elsan point. If you feel the need for a little pampering, you can also book a private session in the hot tub.

From the manager: Wow and when you was leaving you said you had a lovely time and thanked me, so this is a turn up lets address your complaints one by one, "The owner OK" thanks a positive the only other thing is you heard me laugh, well sorry about that in my garden at about 7pm entertaining nice people, two of them caravaners, so glad you wasn't invited just image how much fun that would have been!!!!! and on another note, if your ever passing - keep going.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked De zeer vriendelijke Ontvangst en het uitzicht.

Disliked De zeer luidruchtige en zeer drukke weg direct langs de camping. De voorzieningen zijn oud, niet overal echt schoon.

From the manager: It was nice to have two Dutch ladies stay, normally they are nice a friendly indeed these two ladies wanted to stay an extra night, however we were fully booked due to our popularity as usual. You were so upset when we couldn't accommodate you for an extra night you started talking to the other lady with you in double dutch to me, I thought you would have legged it straight away, but alas you stayed and used all the facilities that you complain about and shot off to Wales in the morning to complain no doubt about your next stay bon route.

Great location for us and very nice site.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Two toilets and a shower all clean and well maintained as was the general area. Quiet site with scenic location, we’d planned to use the hot tub but it was too warm.

John was very helpful, we had a ‘fully serviced’ pitch, hooked to a 16amp supply and a hose for fresh water, waste went to the hedge.

We were on one of the hard standing pitches which put us in morning sun but in the shade for the late afternoon/evening which was great for our weekend as it was in the middle of a heat wave.

The site was handily located off an A road, great access and as we were going to Silverstone it was a perfect location to drive in, on the way back we went to National Trust Canons Ashby, slight detour but worth it.

Disliked Nothing

From the manager: Thanks Gents and would love to see you both soon, and if you would like the hot tub... the next one's on me...

Would definitely return. Excellent site and clean facilities.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely site. Very welcoming owner, John, showed us around the site. Not a big site but everything you need. Good clean facilities. Local for us but if travelling to see the sites then this place is a good place to stop, close for Oxford and Warwick.

Disliked Just to say for other campers the main road can be busy. As far as the site is concerned nothing to dislike.

Our hosts, John 😇and Judy 😇are just the best! 🤩💙🩷
Beautiful site, very well kept, set in quiet surroundings, facilities were great, toilets, shower and all amenities clean and tidy, beautiful village “Cropredy” on the Oxford Canal, pubs to eat too. Visited Banbury and Daventry which are both in driving distance or the bus is accessible directly outside the site!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Easy to find, close to the motorway, great for an overnight stop. John was very friendly and welcoming, there was also a very handy, comprehensive welcome pack. Basic but clean facilities. Nice to be able to use the paddock in the middle of the site for a bit of sun once the shade covered the van. I would recommend bringing levellers.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, the site is perfect for an overnight stay

Local attractions

The only problem you’ll have is deciding what to do first. Warwick Castle (25 minutes’ drive) is a good place to start, with tours of its medieval banqueting hall and live jousting shows, although stately Blenheim Palace (40 minutes) holds its own with fabulous Vanbrugh-designed rooms to tour, an exhibition dedicated to Sir Winston Churchill and numerous walks in the formal gardens and parkland. For more history, head for Stratford-upon-Avon (also 40 minutes), where you can visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace, see the thatched half-timbered cottage where his wife Anne Hathaway lived, and catch his plays performed at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. If you fancy combining a sightseeing trip with a decent stroll and exercising your canine chums, National Trust - Stowe Gardens (half an hour) has several options for lakeside walks in 250 acres crammed with follies. Petrol-heads can catch the British Grand Prix (held in July) and book their own driving experiences at Silverstone Circuit. Alternatively, check out all the classic cars at the British Motor Museum (both 20 minutes), where star exhibits include Del Boy’s three-wheeler from “Only Fools and Horses” and Jackie Stewart’s F1 car.
