Riverside views with plenty of nature

  • Quiet riverside pitches at a Nottinghamshire country pub
  • Lincoln, Southwell and Sherwood Forest all half an hour's drive
  • Kids and dogs welcome; home-cooked meals available in the pub
A quiet riverside spot… views across fields… lots of wildlife around… and walks, watersports and cycling just outside… well, it doesn’t get much better than that for a chilled-out camping spot, does it? Actually, perhaps it does – because when you stay at The Brownlow Arms, you’ll also have the added bonus of having a pub right next to your pitch too. And that means easy access to a drink and a meal at the end of your day out – with no need to drive back to your accommodation afterwards (good news when there’s a range of real ales to try out, perhaps…). Just take note, weekends can be a busy time at this popular Nottinghamshire location. It’s a very welcoming setup, with both dogs and kids welcome, and a play area provided for the latter (handily within eyesight of the pitches so the kids can have a bit of independence while parents supervise from afar). The pub is open throughout the week for drinks, with home-cooked meals also available from Thursday to Sunday. The site itself has been nicely set up with a clutch of useful facilities including toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Campfires and barbecues are permitted, with supplies available at the shops in Sutton on Trent and Tuxford, both within 10 minutes’ drive.

What customers say

This picturesque and friendly site offers fabulous food and a lovely atmosphere in its pub, with spacious pitches and a scenic, quiet location. Recent renovations to facilities are underway, with upgrades noted by visitors. Some guests experienced issues with the grounds being very wet and muddy, particularly affecting parking and vehicle access, and experienced problems with electrics and toilet facilities. The management acknowledges these challenges and is working to address them.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The pitch space was great, liked the fact the toilet and shower was close by and the park for the little one.

Disliked The wait for the food took just over an hour and you had to pre book for a table we wasn’t told this but it was pot luck when we walked in for a table the lady behind the bar said we was the very last people to order food . We did enjoyed it when it arrived. Maybe tell the guest if there’s a wait on the food.

Liked We had a fantastic stay at Brownlow Arms Camping and couldn’t fault it. Karen was a wonderful host – friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help.

The pitches were good, the setting was lovely, and the whole site had a great atmosphere. The food in the pub was absolutely amazing and very reasonably priced, making it excellent value for money. The live music on Saturday night was terrific and really added to the friendly, enjoyable vibe.

The men’s toilet facilities were still a work in progress during our stay, but the ladies’ facilities had already been refurbished and were very good.

Overall, we had a brilliant time and would 100% recommend Brownlow Arms Camping to anyone looking for a friendly, relaxing place to stay. We will definitely be booking again!

Liked The area, very pretty. Easily accessible with a tourer. The Pub was lovely and ghe hosts very friendly.

Oh and I loved the resident ducks - I have a thing for Ducks and they made my day.

Disliked Not a dislike really but was looking forward to a pub meal, but they only serve food Thurs - Sun and I can understand that its because of the foot fall so no criticism.

Wifi service ok in the bar non existent on the campsite.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Well kept grounds and pitches

Disliked As the potential to be a lovely site, not there yet, not enough toilets or showers, for size of site, they said female toilet had been refurbished. Bar staff didn’t listen, people seen vaping in the bar area (inside) nothing said overall disappointed

Electric grass pitch

Liked Beautiful place and the owner is really amazing. I left an hour early expecting heavy traffic due to the bank holiday. However roads were clear and i arrived early. She got me and my kids booked in and we set up.
Its a very wonderful family area and everyone just got along inviting kids to play together and have some random fun with slip and slide with spare air beds. It was amazing.

The pub is having renovations but i cant wait to return to see how that finish turns out. They do amazing 🍺 pints which is just what you need on a hot day.
Its quite and clean with a small play area right in sight to let kids roam and have some responsibility learning.
But under supervision from a distance.

Toilets are really clean and stocked.

No WI-FI which is amazing when you need to get the family away from technology and shut down fully. I would recommend the owners not change that, its what everyone needs!
Its close to Sherwood forest 32 min drive (if you are geo-chasing definitely hit Sherwood you won’t be disappointed! 12 mins from the closest fish and chips in Tuxford if needed.
The pub wasn’t doing food on the nights i stayed (i was hoping they did as the food reviews were wonderful) this i think is due to the renovation they are having but who doesn’t love having your own camp site cook-out!

Plenty of electricity hookups if you have booked Nd really great distance i have my 10m and it was more than enough.

So i would suggest checking whenever you stay what nights food is on.

Disliked Only thing i disliked is the showers. Took ages to get myself and the kids showered because of the set up 10 seconds ice cold 15 seconds scolding (which for children is a very big danger, i would recommend the owners get this sorted over time to prevent accidents) 10 seconds of right temp.
So when using the shower be very careful and be very wary you can get scolded. Listen to the pump when it turns on step back and wait if you have kids or yourself.

It was absolutely amazing and I would absolutely recommend the site to friends and family 100% just the shower issue is a tiny small problem. But don’t let this put you off at all, you won’t be disappointed.

Liked All the facilities needed for camping. Great to have the pub on site! Didn’t eat there as currently not serving food on site.

Disliked Gents toilets require upgrading - but this is planned as Ladies recently completed.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Nice family-friendly campsite with a welcoming atmosphere. The owners were friendly when we arrived and kindly lent us a longer electric hook-up cable as ours didn’t quite reach, which was much appreciated.

The toilet and shower facilities were fine. The ladies’ facilities had recently been upgraded and the men’s facilities were in the process of being improved, which is great to see.

The pub on site was lovely, serving very good food with generous portion sizes. It was also great that BBQs and fire pits were allowed.

We stayed during half term and our children made lots of friends. It was wonderful seeing all the kids playing together and having such a good time. The only slight disappointment was that the children were enjoying a big water fight during a very hot 30°C day, and it was stopped because a small muddy puddle had formed near the tap. It felt like it would have dried up quickly in the heat, and the kids were having so much fun.

Disliked Owners were friendly but occasionally a little abrupt with things.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely campsite, lovely people that own the pub definitely worth the money

Booked for 2 nights as a first time camper with my 10 year old. We did leave a day early than planned but that was only because it was too hot and my daughter struggled with the heat

Disliked Not so much as a dislike but only thing that wasn’t great for me was no food offered in the week during half term holidays or bank holiday Monday

Liked The location is lovely. Set near to the river on the grounds of a lovely old pub. It was a bank holiday so very busy but but the staff were lovely. There was a singer on just outside of our tent which we really enjoyed.
It was also 30+ degrees one day but there is a grand willow in the grounds which kept us cool all day. We would stop again.

Disliked With been busy and I think more one group of campers that were a bit messy the toilets could have done with a good scrub.

Local attractions

Working up a thirst for your evening pint(s) shouldn’t be an issue around here, as it’s very easy to get out for a riverside walk or a bike ride on one of the nearby dedicated cycle paths. Something a bit different? Take a short walk to Marnham Boat Club to organise watersports including water-skiing. For local outings, head to the sobering but important National Holocaust Centre and Museum (15 minutes’ drive) or stop in Tuxford (10 minutes) for the Walks Of Life Museum and Museum of the Horse. A little further away, you may like to visit Southwell (half an hour) for the minster and National Trust - The Workhouse, or Newark-on-Trent (20 minutes) for its National Civil War Centre, air museum and castle. Continue the fresh-air activities with time at RSPB Langford Lowfields (20 minutes) or Sherwood Forest (half an hour), or opt for more city time with a day in Lincoln (half an hour), looking out for its castle, cathedral and bishops’ palace.
