  • Peaceful touring pitches with rural views for CAMC members only
  • A 10-minute drive from Retford and 35 minutes from Sherwood Forest
  • Under 10 minutes’ walk from a pub and shop
Nipping to the countryside for a weekend away or a break from work and life duties? If you're a Caravan and Motorhome Club member, use Willow Beck Retreat Certificated Location (a CAMC members-only site) as your Nottinghamshire bolthole. The touring pitches are on the edge of the village of North Leverton. First and foremost, this translates to excellent views of the countryside. However, it also has the nice touch of being just a five-minute walk to a village shop and under 10 minutes along a footpath to a traditional local pub. Convenient facilities on site include an amenities block with gas-powered hot showers, toilets and a hand-washing basin. The pitches also have their own drinking water and grey waste disposal facilities. On a lazy day, weave in a visit to the North Leverton Windmill visitor centre just a five-minute walk away. Built in 1813, the windmill is still going strong and sells flour and other local products. For a spot of shopping or café- and bar-hopping instead, eye up the historical market town of Retford 10 minutes’ drive away.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, well-maintained site with spacious, fully-serviced pitches. Visitors praise the clean facilities, convenient location near a village shop and pub, and the tranquil atmosphere. While most guests have a positive experience, some have noted minor issues with shower temperature regulation and occasional road noise. The coin-operated electric hook-up is generally seen as good value.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked Mixed feelings with this site.

Quiet location the majority of time, a bit of road noise on Sunday day with bikes and fast cars but not overnight or on the Monday/Tuesday therefore slept well.
Pretty surroundings.
Large pitch.
Water on pitch and electricity if required.
Warm shower
Picnic benches
I can see from previous reviews that some things have been resolved such as the step, cut grass and clothes hook, the toilets and shower were clean enough for being in a field, but other issues still remain see below.

Disliked Didn't see anyone associated with the site, no access to information room.
No toilet paper in the toilets
Bins overflowing
No instructions received after booking or throughout stay (just standard pitchup email). There is a sign on the post on the pitch and in the toilets showing how to pay, which is straightforward.
I understand this is a small site and has extra facilities than required, however the facilities are advertised as included in the price so are expected. We were aware of the extra cost for electricity that required coins, we were fine with that.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked Peaceful site, within walking distance to the village shop and pub.
(pub doesn't serve food). Picnic table available for each pitch.

Disliked Although the CL's do not need to have toilets and shower on site, this one was advertised as having both.
Unfortunately on arrival it was clear to see they are not clean. There is no soap, no loo rolls and no towel paper or otherwise.
The step up to the shower block is broken and very high. A couple of us struggled on site with the height of it.
Bins overflowing nobody emptying them, stayed 6 nights still overflowing when we left.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked Small quiet site with 5 gravel hard standing pitches with metered electric and water and grey waste. 1 gravel pitch which looked to be electric. Self serve pitch just turn up and pick one. We had pitch 4 which was spacious. Short walk into North Leverton which had a shop and pub, not serving food but has food trucks. 2 toilets and 1 shower on site looked very clean.

From the manager: Hi, thank you for staying at Willow beck retreat. The showers and toilet are complementary as a Caravan motorhome club we do not have to have an amenity block we do not charge for the showers. They are cleaned every day and we are only five Pitch certified location so we never get really busy anyway thank you very much for staying. You are more than welcome to visit again.

Local attractions

Whether you were raised on Robin Hood or simply fancy a good woodland stroll, Sherwood Forest (35 minutes’ drive) makes a splendid addition to any day’s plan. The forest has a short trail to the ‘Magic Oak’, a tree with a 10-metre trunk girth and a collection of up to 150,000 acorns when the conditions are optimal. If you’re up for a long-ish cycle, stop by the forest café before taking your wheels onto the Sustrans Route 6 passing by the outskirts of the forest reserve. Travelling with under-10s? Sundown Adventureland (five minutes) has miniature rides and quick entertainment for those still in their primary school years. Alternatively, grab a ‘discovery backpack’ from the café-shop at the Idle Valley Nature Reserve (Notts Wildlife Trust) (15 minutes) and go birdwatching from the boardwalks. Any keen anglers may want to go to Wetlands Lakes (15 minutes) for a day of carp fishing, as long as they’re armed with the correct licence. Otherwise, the National Trust’s Clumber Park (20 minutes) has 3,800 acres of gorgeous parkland including 20 miles of cycling paths, a second-hand bookshop, and an avenue with 1200+ lime trees.
