Lovely site, lovely staff, child friendly, and amazing location. 03/09/2017

Lovely, quiet site. Really liked the small play area for kids. My 8 year old loved it and quickly made friends with other children. The staff were really friendly. The lady ( sorry, forgot her name) let us in, let us choose our pitch, and showed us around. We only stayed for one night but found everyone to be friendly and accommodating of the children playing. Also the entrance is quite interesting, you turn off the main road and drive along a track which goes past some out buildings then through a few farmers fields before you get to the site. Overall it was a very pleasant site, clean and got showers. Fab location, very close to lots of lovely places. Sherwood Forest, Clumber park, Rufford country park, plus lots more.

    Clean toilets with music
Friendly owners on site at all times - they have a tourer near the entrance
Barrier access with key (£10 deposit you get back when you leave)
Lovely views over the fields (ignore the industrial estate at the bottom).
Close to Sundown Adventureland and various country parks

    Disliked:

Small pitches in the middle of the field, so expect to be watched by everyone as you pitch up, go about your business etc if you are unlucky enough to get one of these. A lot of people seemed happy to sit by their vans all day which is fine but does make you feel watched if you have a centre pitch. It's also the tighest site we've ever been on, and with a Land Rover and 7foot van we're quite a big unit - very hard to get the swing on the centre pitches and we couldn't park on the pitch, had to use a car parking area at the top (then had to later move our car so another van could get to their pitch, it's that tight). We could see the car but anyone else parking there wouldn't be able to, and kids were running loose with toy cars and balls etc near the cars.
Nowhere on our pitch to set up a little paddling pool area for our toddler without being completed exposed on all sides, and pitch was hardstanding anyway so wouldn't have been very nice for her.
Also, the 5 centre pitches are rammed in so you are literally about 4ft from next door - noise is then a problem! The next field over with fully serviced pitches didn't have centre pitches - maybe they get special treatment for paying a bit extra
Extremely noisy - 10pm noise limit but this was loosely enforced and when I complained about the van next door was told it was OK because they'd closed the van door, despite the fact they were playing club music on the van stereo so loudly I had to put white noise on to drown it out so we could get the toddler to sleep, could still hear it word by word (Zombie Nation at 10pm, anyone?) and over the sound of our TV which I was sitting next to. This was on top of the kids screaming, swearing and peering into our awning.
Tiny play area that was used past dark by kids older than the limit of 10, litter all over it, nothing really suitable for toddlers except a wendy house that has seen better days! In the end the owner took the swings down to get the kids off it, they still weren't back up by 8am the next day.
The play area is also right next to the caravans so noisy all day - kids will be kids but don't come here if you want a peaceful break, you probably won't get one!
Only 4 showers and 8 toilets to service entire site (4 fields!) - expect queues if you don't go early or late
It's obvious the secluded/large pitches are all used to house sited tourers, so if you don't site there expect to get a smaller hardstanding pitch
No bin by the washing up area, which is also raised so high everyone has to use stools to use it - understand it's probably to stop kids leaving the taps on (although they could also just use the stools....) but it's a weird setup to be honest!
Site doesn't recycle, so all rubbish thrown in smelly large dumpsters at the entrance
The toilets are all so cramped that you have to open the stable type door fully inwards, slip inside, then shut the door. The toilet roll will fall off. If you are taking a child in, expect to have to carry them in as you won't have room to walk into the cubicle with them.
No designated place in the shower block to get dressed, the front bit opens on to the road so don't get changed there. The cubicles and toilets are blocked off by a door but this is often left open by others so if you step out be sure to have a towel on. The 2 showers just have curtains and so clothes do get a bit wet.

We did stay for August bank holiday and did book late on in August so understood it would be busy, however, we would have rather they had just had not given us a space when we turned up to find we were basically rammed onto a pitch obviously made just to make extra money for the site with no consideration for noise. The play area was OK for our toddler as we weren't on site much but the older kids abused it and made us uncomfortable using it. The overall noise and cramped feeling was our main problem, however, I've never been on such a noisy or cramped site!

We stay on the family site with our Grandson aged 5 we where pitched right next to the park which he loved. Site was clean and the staff very welcoming

    Disliked:

The weekend we spent on the site was spoiled by others noise going on until the early hours of the morning we mentioned it to the site management who said it was a group of family's and they had been told, but it didn't seem to make a difference so not much more they could do. Clearly not willing to tackle them again. Terms and conditions state Quite between the hours 11pm until 8am.

Local attractions

Robin Hood Retreat is a short drive from the rides, farm and waterpark of Robin Hoods Wheelgate Family Theme Park and from the cute creatures of White Post Farm Animal Park. If you're ambling around Sherwood Forest, the Major Oak in its midst should enthrall the kids too, as according to legend it's the shelter where Robin Hood and his merry men slept.

Adrenaline seekers can swing around nearby at Go Ape!, or career around the quad bike and go-kart track near Rufford; the area also has the Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex in Mansfield, National Cycle Network pedals, and Norwood Golf Club a short drive from the site.

For history, Newark Castle on the banks of the Trent or the spectacular city views from high-up Nottingham Castle are both good picks, or you could get to Newstead Abbey, the former twelfth-century monastery with extensive gardens, lakes, ponds and waterfalls.

Other attractions include Rufford Park, Southwell Minster, Mr Straw's House in Worksop and the Southwell Garden Centre.
