    The view

Arrived to find only one shower as work being done then by teatime there was no shower at all. 2nd night there was one shower but there was only a loose curtain so no privacy and nowhere to change and put your clean clothes. It was like being in the 1960’s.We woke up 6am the first morning to find there was no electric even though we had already paid for the electric in the price. We had to contact the owner/warden as it was freezing and she couldn’t understand why we had run out of electric she was very rude and accusing us of having the heating on all night which we hadn’t and then started raising her voice saying there must be something wrong with our caravan which was also incorrect. When we returned from our day out the following day we went to take our gate key and get our deposit back as we were leaving next morning and she started raising her voice again saying she shouldn’t have to pay for our electricity and that nobody else had a problem and her attitude towards us (her customers) was disgusting. When we got back to our caravan the couple on the next plot to us said he’d had the same problem as us and there’s ran out and again she was rude to them It is totally unacceptable to be spoken to like that. We do not recommend this sight to anyone

  • Liked:

Lovely like site and lovely pitch right next to the child’s play area the only trouble was my grandchildren are 7 and 9 so didn’t use it as its aimed at small children of toddler age up to prob age 4. The Astro turf pitch was good for football unfortunately you can’t choose the weather. Toilets were spotlessly clean.

    Disliked:

The 2 showers were really strange with just a curtain and no door although spotless would not use them as no privacy. Not keen on the industrial estate you come through and it’s a very narrow lane up to the site only room for one vehicle there are a couple of pull ins but they are quite far apart

Local attractions

Robin Hood Retreat is a short drive from the rides, farm and waterpark of Robin Hoods Wheelgate Family Theme Park and from the cute creatures of White Post Farm Animal Park. If you're ambling around Sherwood Forest, the Major Oak in its midst should enthrall the kids too, as according to legend it's the shelter where Robin Hood and his merry men slept.

Adrenaline seekers can swing around nearby at Go Ape, or career around the quad bike and go-kart track near Rufford; the area also has the Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex in Mansfield, National Cycle Network pedals, and Norwood Golf Club a short drive from the site.

For history, Newark Castle on the banks of the Trent or the spectacular city views from high-up Nottingham Castle are both good picks, or you could get to Newstead Abbey, the former twelfth-century monastery with extensive gardens, lakes, ponds and waterfalls.

Other attractions include Rufford Park, Southwell Minster, Mr Straw's House in Worksop and the Southwell Garden Centre.

Must see

  • Sherwood Forest Country Park (5.5 miles)
