Sherwood Forest is of course best known for its Robin Hood connections – but these days there’s little need to worry about outlaws while visiting the area. In fact, this lovely Nottinghamshire nature area is a very peaceful place these days, although you may need to watch out for a Gruffalo along some of the trails… Surrounded by woodlands, fields and lakes and on the banks of the River Maun, Sherwood Forest Holiday Park makes an excellent base for time spent in the famous forest and touring other nearby attractions. You’ll be able to spot wildlife while you’re here (peacocks, swans and squirrels included), head out into the forest for walks, bike rides and other activities, or find farm parks, amusement parks and museums to fill your time with. This park, 10 minutes’ drive from Mansfield, spreads out over a fabulous 50 acres, so there’s plenty of space to relax among the natural surroundings. It doesn’t feel like one big sprawling site though, as it’s been divided up into smaller areas for more of a cosy, sheltered feeling. Each of the pitch areas has its own character – some are closer to play areas for families, while others are quieter and more suited to relaxing breaks – so feel free to specify which you’d prefer. Wherever you stay at this park, you’ll have good access to amenities including toilet and shower blocks, chemical disposal points and other handy things including a food shop and a launderette. Play areas are scattered around for the younger guests, and there’s access to the river for fishing (if you have a licence). Dogs are welcome too, and should have plenty of options for walks nearby.

  • The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

  • The grocery shop is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Occupancy

  • Bookings must not consist of more than 4 different households.
  • Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).
  • Group bookings of 4 or more units travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

  • Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

  • Fires, barbecues and/or firepits will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.
  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Vehicles

  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the passenger door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.
  • Touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans with the passenger door built on the left-hand side are not permitted.

Liked Nicely spaced out pitches. Very nice cafe nearby.

Disliked The grass should have been collected when cut, as it was wet grass got walked everywhere.

Liked Lovely well kept site with lots of riverside pitches and woodland walks. Great shower blocks and friendly helpful staff. Has a shop and whilst I was there an ice cream van visited the site. The pitch I was on had Laura’s l hedges either side for privacy and the size of the pitch was great for setting up my awning with plenty of space left

Disliked Through no fault of their own, one of the play areas had been severely vandalised by previous visitors children. So much so that it had to be demolished and as I had my granddaughter with me this was a shame. But I imagine this will be rebuilt over the winter period hopefully

Disliked Park was dismantled due to damage a shame but can’t be helped!

Liked The size of the pitch was perfect, the facilities where very clean and water was hot. Grounds very tidy and all staff were helpful and polite.

Disliked Our pitch was over shadowed by very large trees so didn't get as much sun as some other pitches.

Liked We stayed here for two nights. Staff where great. Pitch was perfect! Right next to the little lake. Site is very clean and tidy. Shop for the essentials.

Disliked Facilities are OK. Showers could do with some upgrades. Know where to sit down to get changed once showered.

Liked Pitches were a fabulous size, well located water and EHU close to lots of toilet blocks

Disliked We requested to be placed across from a park and when we arrived it was just a gated area where a park once stood with no attempt to let us know or keep us updated that it was no longer there

Liked Nothing to dislike, nicely maintained park very nice and polite staff, once arrived the maintenance guy showed us to our pitch, shop very reasonably priced, as we went off season the food situation was not great but with Mansfield down the road was no issue whatsoever, great park highly recommend and will visit again for sure!

Liked Great pitch size 138 for a large tent and extension. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Good security for coming and going. Clean shower and toilet blocks. Well stocked shop.

You’ll want to start in Sherwood Forest itself, of course – it’s now home to some great activities including archery, disc golf and quad biking, or you can try the high ropes courses at Go Ape Sherwood (10 minutes' drive). There are also lots of great trails to follow, including kid-friendly Gruffalo and Room on the Broom paths and trails around the huge and ancient Major Oak. If you’ve brought the kids along for a holiday, you may also like to try places like Willow Tree Family Farm (15 minutes), Robin Hoods Wheelgate Park (15 minutes) or Freestyle Trampoline Park, Soft Play and Inflatable (25 minutes) – the last of these particularly handy for a damp day.
