Hardstanding pitch with lake views

  • Angling site with six lakes and the River Idle alongside
  • Regular match venue for coarse fishing, 30 minutes from Sherwood
  • Tackle shop, central amenities and café and licensed restaurant
Spectacular fishing with mighty scenic views... cast off at Nottinghamshire's Hallcroft Fishery and Holiday Park for angling in seven waters on a spacious and well-equipped park. Six lakes are at your fishing disposal here, along with yet more angling in the River Idle which runs alongside the site. You can land bream, eels, roach, tench, perch and varying types of carp at these, including at the huge Moat lake which is a regular venue for matches around its 190 pegs; if you fancy your hand at procuring pike, the river's the place to be. And if you need tackle, kit, bait or any angling advice, a shop for the same is right on site. Hallcroft is two and a half miles from East Retford, about 40 minutes' drive from Newark and half an hour from Sherwood Forest. You can stay solely on site should you so wish: the Kingfisher café and restaurant dishes up full English breakfasts, tea, coffee and toast to sort sustenance before a day's fishing; hot snacks are available some lunchtimes, and evening meals are on offer for after your angling. The restaurant is licensed, to serve boozy beverages during standard pub hours, and a pool table and darts board are to hand too. There are showers and toilets in the centre of the site, part of a good range of amenities including recycling, chemical disposal, a washing-up area and gas cylinder sales.

What customers say

This popular campsite is praised for its clean and spacious facilities, friendly staff, and beautiful lakeside setting, making it ideal for fishing and nature walks. Guests appreciate the well-maintained grounds and peaceful atmosphere. Minor drawbacks include occasional noise from other campers and some dated facilities requiring maintenance. The site is well-located for exploring the local town.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The location and the size of the pitch. The toilet block was impressive.

Disliked The shower I used lasted less than 5 seconds when triggered and barely built up enough pressure. Iay have been unlucky but it was very disappointing considering how nicely done out the block was.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great Lakes and surrounding area very good fishing .

Disliked Small amount of facilities and not clean at all
.
Large amount of coming and going’s
Esp from
Friday afternoon .
No order to where people could pitch so people just pitch anyway and walk around your pitch .
Larger groups camping together being generally loud and allowing children to play around vans until early hours !

Not a nice feel on site at times which is a shame as it was a nice area .

Electric grass pitch

Liked Level site, attractive grounds.

Disliked Washrooms potentially very good, good size, large showers but they didn’t work!! Water dribbled out at worst flowed slowly at best. You annoyingly have to keep pressing a button to keep the water running and one of the showers this needed to be every 2 seconds. No air vents.
Constant smell of weed in the camping area and very noisy single sex parties.
The shop/restaurant was barely open.

I wish you had come to the office and told me about the showers and I could of done something about the timings on the shower
As for not camping you are right but I love a caravan what I really meant I would not be so brave to camp with the weather forecast you are braver then me!
I have taken on board all your comments and these will be looked at

Electric grass pitch

Liked Quiet, clean, nice having pub/restaurant on site. Nice walks around lakes. Great for loves who love fishing

Disliked No one in reception and map/signs more geared to fishing pitches than camping. Finally found our pitch thanks to a guest who saw us struggling. Lots of speed bumps on route to site safe but annoying.

From the manager: Thank you for your review
I am sorry the reception was shut when you visited, it would of been the managers day off.
I will loo kat the check in paperwork to see if we can explain the camping more clearly

I recommend it to anyone looking for a campsite to relax, go fishing.

Unfortunately we are very busy during August and the toilet block does get busy during peak times

Local attractions

After your angling, take the kids to Sundown Adventureland (20 minutes' drive), a theme and play park for under-10s with rides and attractions of all sorts including an intriguingly-named ostrich safari ride. (You may or may not opt to let the kids know a pet shop is at the park too...) For a calmer time, the National Trust and Grade I-listed Clumber Park is 25 minutes from Hallcroft, for peaceful potters around its 3,800 acres. It's the former home of the Duke of Newcastle, so ponder on how the other half live during your scenic strolls, or hire a bike to pedal around the woodland and lake. National Cycle Route 6 connects Clumber Park with fab Sherwood Forest, along a path of almost seven miles. If you'd prefer to stay closer to home, Hallcroft is next to the biking and hiking of the Idle Valley Nature Reserve, an excellent birdwatching spot.
