Liked: Loved this little stop on our travels, found it on pitch up and hour before arrival. When we arrived we son learned that this farm was in fact an animal sanctuary and they rent out 1 field for motorhomes ect to help pay for their brilliant work they do Lovely family and lovely lady telling us all about it.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The peace and tranquility. Great welcome, and it was lovely to hear the stories of all of the rescued animals. Great surroundings for a good walk with the dog, didn’t see a soul when we were walking. Hilarious watching the animals being called in for the night, the sheep definitely won, the alpacas not in such a rush 😊

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review :) Yes, especially Steve (one of the sheep) he can certainly move when he wants to lol Take care, Sam, Darren, Lilly & all the animals xx

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Prijs.

From the manager: Hello, Many thanks for your review and sorry we didn't get to meet you. We are sad that you felt the need to mark us so low, especially for example on things like customer service?! You arrived at 10.30 (past our book in time) which we don’t mind and we had left everything open for you and our welcome email explains where we are etc. However we still would have personally welcomed you in, but had to go out in an emergency just before you arrived. When we returned at gone 11.30pm we did not want to disturb you. You left early in the morning, so we were never given the opportunity to provide you with any level of customer service, so to rate it at all, especially so low is a little unfair. Had you called /text or emailed (all details that are provided to you) we would have advised where the toilet was, it is not kept on the camping field as we like to keep the field looking clear and we use it for animals when it is not being camped on or had you arrived before last book in time, we would have been here to advise you. Being in a motorhome we would have thought you were covered for toilet use, but as advised, we would have happily shown/told you where it was, (had you arrived before last book in or had you asked). As your booking came in late the day you arrived the animals were already out and we had to get them in from that paddock quickly, so i can only apologise that we missed two of our miniature horse’s poops! Again had you let us know, we would have removed them as soon as we returned. I can assure you this did not smell and is not toxic, the smell you could smell is an ambient smell in the air at the moment, as the farmers have been fertilising the fields! This has nothing to do with anything on our property and is a side effect of living/camping in the country, thankfully it is not all year round, but please do not think or state it was from here. In regards to the road noise, this is clearly reflected in the price and clearly noted in the description, as well as on the map you can see it is beside a main road, we do not hide this fact and it is not something we can change, some nights are louder than others, but in general once past midnight the road is quiet. Whilst it is completely your prerogative to leave a review you see fit, we work our hardest to make sure everyone is happy, so we are a little saddened you marked us down for things we never had the opportunity to address or advise on. Again, sorry we did not get to meet you and we wish you the best for your journey. Kind regards, Sam

Liked: The family and the animals they rescue are lovely. The camping field faces the paddock and we woke up with rheas, ponies and sheep the other side of the fence. There is a quaint farm shop with goodies to take home. The facilities are basic and that is reflected in the price. Its close enough to skegness beach for a day visit and lots of animal centres nearby. Also a pub 5 mins away for meals. Clean portaloo on site. This was a neurodiverse friendly place as an extra bonus and i would definitely recommend and return

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We absolutely LOVED our stay at old generals farm!! Sam and Darren are brilliant, Nothing is too much trouble for them, they're so welcoming and it felt like home from home! My children (18months and 7years) had a brilliant time and really enjoyed being told all about the animals! Despite being a 'back to basics' place my son has declared it THE BEST SITE EVER! I must agree! We were glad to see the toilet not on the field, there's nothing worse than being woken up by a slamming loo door! The farmshop is lovely, We were super surprised at how cheap it was too, The kids really enjoyed picking out their journey home snacks and drinks! We can't wait to come back for a longer stay, 2 nights was not enough to fully enjoy the site and all its surrounding days out! We had chance to pop to Skegness for the day which was lovely and less than half an hour away! I'd honestly just come back for the animals and owners! *There's no WiFi but pitchup wouldn't NOT let me rate it!

Local attractions

Feel almost as though you’ve stepped onto Noah’s ark at ARK Wildlife Park & Exotic Animal Sanctuary (15 minutes’ walk). Here, there are exotic reptiles, rescued mammals and bold carnivores waiting around the enclosures. Also nearby, learn the ins and outs of the aeroplanes in the sky at the local Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (five minutes’ drive). There are several wildlife parks around, each with its own tune. At Wolds Wildlife Park (20 minutes) you can see the big cats up close, and at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes), treat yourself to a trip around the turtle sanctuary and more close encounters with zoo animals. In Skegness, the beach is all geared up for a family-friendly day out, whether it’s go-karting, ten-pin bowling or a walk down the pier. While there aren't so many watersports here, there's plenty over at the Lincolnshire Aquapark and Watersports (half an hour). Will it be paddleboarding, kayaking or pedalos first? On the way, it's a good idea to turn into the Gunby Estate (20 minutes), as this National Trust site has very pretty Victorian walled gardens suited to a leisurely stroll.
