  • A short walk from Burghley House for the Burghley Horse Trials
  • Horse lorries and dogs welcome on site; pub 20 minutes' walk away
Getting away to Lincolnshire and looking for a straightforward, well-run place to stay? It's your lucky day: Hereward Way Camping is a relaxed pop-up site on a working farm. The pitches are on flat, well-drained grass, with plenty of room between them so that they don't feel crowded. To boot, there are open countryside views. The site is also a convenient base for all those heading to events like the Burghley Horse Trials, triathlons and other local fixtures: it's within walking distance of Burghley House (the nearest entrances are Entrance 8 or Pilsgate Lodge), and the team here are able to run shuttles for a small fee. Simple facilities (toilets and showers) have been provided, and there's plenty of space in the level grass field – so you’re welcome to bring larger vehicles like horse lorries. Need a pint at the end of an eventful day? The nearest pub is a 20-minute walk away in the village of Barnack, and it has some great meals on offer too. For picnic supplies, takeaways, supermarkets and other foodie needs, head into Stamford, 10 minutes' drive away. There are plenty of other things around to fill any gaps in your schedule – perhaps a stroll through the Lincolnshire countryside, a lakeside walk at Rutland Water or a tour of Burghley House itself.

What customers say

A beautiful, spacious campsite offering a warm welcome and perfect for dog owners and equestrians. It's ideally located for Burghley Horse Trials, with a helpful shuttle service available. While some found facilities basic, including portaloos needing improvement, the manager has noted this for next year, promising a better layout and servicing. Value for money was a concern for one guest.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Close to Burghley horse trials which was the sole reason for our visit. Walk took us 45 minutes to the lion bridge (Burghley) via the footpaths.
Driving to Burghley was about 10 minutes for the showjumping.

The campsite was very basic, pop up showers, ran well but generator ran out of a fuel which means they didn’t really have a “cut off” point. More of a case of, if you’re lucky.

Porta loo’s were absolutely filthy second day. This is something that would need improvement for the following year.

The gentleman that came to collect the balance was very pleasant.

One downside is definitely paying per person and not per tent.

All in all a pleasant stay & spot on for what we needed, although room for improvement.

Value for money I would say is definitely on the lower side, paid a lot for very little realistically.

From the manager: hi, thanks for this always useful. Noted and next year we have organised a better layout for the loo's as well as some servicing during the weekend. We are also doing shuttles.
