  • Family-friendly site in Ingoldmells, five minutes’ drive to Skegness
  • Beaches, aquarium, amusement parks and farm all within five minutes
  • Dogs welcome on site; dog-friendly Ingoldmells South beach nearby
Prefer to head back to the peace and quiet of a pretty park after energetic days out? That’s sorted with a stay at The Woodlands – during a hol here, a couple of minutes’ drive from Butlins, you’ll be within easy access of Skegness’ many lively local attractions. While this park in Ingoldmells is fab for all the family, kids will especially be in their element when staying here; along with the Skegness action, within a five-minute drive there are steam trains to ride on, farm animals to meet and trampolines to bounce about on. But it’s not all full-on: if you're after a more laidback time there are also nature reserves to amble around, impressive buildings to admire and pretty gardens to wander. Pets are welcome at The Woodlands too, and more good news is that dogs can tear around Ingoldmells South’s sandy beach (five minutes’ drive) all year round, so seaside times with your canine pal are on the cards. As for the practical stuff, an amenities block is on base with toilets, showers and a washing-up area, and you’ll have internet access to help with plotting your days out.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The place was clean.

Disliked I will never in my lifetime set foot on this park again. I understood quickly why it was the only place we could find with availability at such short notice on a bankholiday. The manager was unbelievable. Rude, but extremely unhelpful this man should not be in charge of anything customer service related. He was rude to me, rude to my wife. I simply cannot for the life of me understand who would put him in charge of a camp site or anything that benefits from customer relations. He may single handedly ruin that business.

We got our touring caravan there earky at 245pm (4pm check in) after a nearly 200 mile journey but we're told despite the fact there was only 1 other guest on the whole site, we weren't allowed on because it was against the rules. I explained that we had a baby that was becoming really restless and we needed to change him etc and begged for access because my wife wanted to sort the baby and I was tired from the journey but we were swiftly knocked back with an almost satisfied attitude. I remained calm and asked if there was somewhere we could park the car and caravan to wait. We were directed to possibly the most busy road in the area which was skinnier than Kate Moss after a weekend bender so when I arrived with a 4 birth caravan I had the road blocked almost immediately...
After we got out of there we drove round for 20 minutes but could find nowhere suitable ro wait.

By this time the heat was getting to us all so ny wife who's a Christian was close to tears and said she'd try to talk sense into him so she called and begged for him to let us in, even offered an extra fee but to no avail so we drove around to keep the air con on for the baby just hoping the car didn't overheat.

This is the worst start to any holiday we've had, so much so that we nearly left for home.

Once we finally got on site we were literally only the second van on site. he again was inpatient trying to give us his list of rules and regs but as you can imagine we found it difficult to talk to him after what we'd been through for the last hour.

I bit me tongue because I didn't want to ruin the holiday any further and we got on with it. You had to drive through our site to get to what looked like a superior site with lodges next door which was clearly connected and that wasnt even half full which I can only assume is down to the kind of poor service this guy bestowed on us.

The site has absolutely nothing apart from a toilet block, not even a swing for the kids, its nearly all tarmac and gravel and has none of the soul we've found on past sites we've visited.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked A spacious if sparse site. We and another motorhome had the site to ourselves until the early May Bank Holiday weekend when it's capacity of 9 was reached which stretched the limited facilities. Showers are 50p but provide ample hot water. Buses are about a 15 minute walk giving access to Skegness to the south and Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe to the north. The Site Manager, Tony, was very amiable and always on hand for a chat and advice.

Disliked Limited toilet facilities but they were always clean and well presented.

Liked Site very clean and very well maintained by the site manager Tony who takes great pride in keeping it that way. Toilets and shower block very clean . Very quiet site .We had a small leak from a pipe in our caravan I asked Tony the manager if there was a mechanic available Tony went out of his way to help stop the leak and advised us what the correct part we needed.
Lovely walk to ingoldmells about 30 mins away

Disliked Short stretch of road outside the site with no walkway

Local attractions

Attractions start a short walk away from this site: trot towards the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway (10 minutes' walk) for rides in an old railway carriage. Alternatively, jump in the car for the sights of Skegness (five minutes' drive) – think traditional seaside amusements like a pier, beach and fairground. There are also creatures to eyeball in the town’s Natureland Seal Sanctuary and Skegness Aquarium, as well as at the ARK wildlife park & exotic animal sanctuary (half an hour). Other kid-approved activities to try in the area include bounding around at the Jump Warriors Trampoline Park and rushing down the rides at the Fantasy Island amusement park (both five minutes’ drive). And for grownup things to do if you’re here sans small fry? Venture to the Victorian gardens at the National Trust's Gunby Hall (15 minutes) or mosey to the model car museum On Your Marques (even if only to tell the staff how much you appreciate its punny name). To escape the crowds, have a jaunt around the Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve (15 minutes), a protected area spanning the coast just south of Skegness, keeping an eye out for terns, skylarks, waders and brent geese depending on the season.
