Caravan with large awning and outdoor furniture

General

  • Family-run rural site near the village of Wainfleet All Saints
  • A 15-minute drive from Skegness and the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Scout hut with kitchen, dining tables and space to play games

Just be prepared? Fret not if that’s the limit of your scouting knowledge, as you don’t need to be a woggle wielder to stay at Kantankye Scout Campsite (although you may have already gathered that you shouldn’t be too surprised if you encounter a group of lads clad in green).

This small family-run site is indeed open to all who fancy a rural break within easy reach of the beach at Skegness and the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – you’re in between the two here, and a mere 15-minute drive from both.

Anyone with vague memories of basic scout camps from their youth will be chuffed to hear that the mod con factor has been raised somewhat these days. There’s a bathroom block (with showers installed from 2019), a small shop and the essential scout hut, home to a guest kitchen and plenty of tables and chairs for dinners, games and the like (please note the hut is available for private hire so may be unavailable on occasions, and that the opening hours vary by season).

This is a particularly fab place for hols with the nippers – there’s heaps of space for them to play out in the open air and a veritable plethora of family-friendly attractions nearby. Once you’re done with your day out at the beach/aquarium/theme park/nature reserve/aviation museum, swing by the little village of Wainfleet All Saints (five minutes away) for supermarket snacks, pub grub or a chip supper.

Caravan nice and clean, and comfortable. Everything you needed included, even down to duvet and pillows. Very quiet, but then there were only my group of friends staying in their vans. Nice level site, with trees, which sheltered the strong wind! Plenty of fishing lakes near by.

    Disliked:

Site looked a little sad, some rubbish around.

The joys of a touring caravan without the hassle.01/09/2019

Would recommend the experience of a touring caravan without the towing, setting up etc. Caravan fully equipped with everything we needed and much more. The awning was a definite bonus.Campsite very peaceful yet only a couple of miles from the village. Our son loved the small children’s play area and as it’s only a small site he and the dog had the space to run around with a certain amount of freedom. Excellent views of the stars at night. Only noise was an owl and the wind in the trees. Very friendly couple who own the site, who ran through how everything worked on our arrival. It was worth paying the extra £5 a night to have the waste taken away and the water topped up. We looking forward to returning next year.

    Disliked:

This is no reflection on the campsite but as it’s so rural some the surrounding roads are single track and quite winding but you can’t really have one without the other !

Everything!!! Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Very clean and pleasant site! The onsite caravan was amazing!! So clean, everything you could possibly need plus more is already inside the van! Lots of space! Absolutely fantastic way to experience caravaning (minus the towing!) before purchasing! Great learning cure, now want a caravan!
Clean facilities, cheap ice cream onsite (payable via a honesty box).
    Very close to Skegness seafront!
    Will definitely return!!

    Grass pitch

    Disliked:

Didnt feel safe drunk people, lots gypsies living there. . And no welcome to tell us where to pitch or where facilities were. Not clearly marked had to turn around in a motorhome on narrow single road

From the manager...

Can I state that we were totally unaware of the tourer caravans that arrived the same day as yourself , also booked through pitch up , to be as you say drunk gypsies type people, we also felt threatened by them. As for no welcome did you not see a sign pointing to reception were there is a bell clearly signed, if you ring we come out of our home to help you , we cannot help the narrow roads that is how the roads are here, if you follow Google maps or sat nav it brings you straight to the site, it's so unfortunate you experienced these people who gave a totally wrong impression of our site which normally has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere , which sadly you couldn't experience , those people are blacklisted, No one like that lives here, I am truely sorry for the bad experience and will happily refund your money for the one night pitch. Local attractions

This is a great spot for outdoorsy activities – 15 minutes from the Lincolnshire Wolds for walking and cycle trails, and the dunes and lagoons of the Gibraltar Point nature reserve are about 25 minutes away. If you fancy a post-walk pint, drop into Batemans (in the village) for a tour of the Victorian brewhouse and a fresh beer.

Up in Skegness, the splendid sandy beach is the main attraction; also in town are donkey rides, amusement arcades and an aquarium. A little further up the coast are the rides and rollercoasters of Fantasy Island theme park.

Another excellent visit nearby is to the East Kirkby Aviation Heritage Centre, a World War II bomber airfield where you can see the control tower and ride in a Lancaster Bomber (book before arrival for a plane ride).

Must see

  • Sandringham (24.3 miles)
  • Holkham Hall (27.0 miles)
  • Houghton Hall (27.6 miles)

National Trust

  • Gunby Hall (3.6 miles)
  • Gunby Hall Estate: Monksthorpe Chapel (3.6 miles)
