Batemans Brewery Campsite: Grass pitches

General

  • Simple riverside touring pitches by a mill in Wainfleet All Saints
  • A 10-minute drive from Skegness; 20 minutes from Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Next to a brewery with tours; village pub a five-minute walk away

Pitching up where your pints are made – with pubs and brewery tours on hand too? If you’ve raised a glass to that fine idea, make tracks to Batemans Brewery Campsite, in the village of Wainfleet All Saints.

There’s much here to appeal to beer fans, of course – you can see how the ales are created in the brewery, then take a five-minute stroll to sample the results in the local pub alongside your dinner. There’s another fine pub five minutes’ drive away in the village of Croft too if you fancy mixing things up a bit, and a small supermarket a few minutes' walk away for picking up any supplies you may need.

It’s not all about beer around here though – this is a super spot in a lovely Lincolnshire location, with a river running alongside and an old windmill giving the place a sense of heritage. Days out visiting the likes of Skegness, Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve, Gunby Hall and the Lincolnshire Wolds are all easy to get to as well (all of the aforementioned are within a 20-minute drive).

A shower block is available on site, and portaloos are close by just to the side of the camping area. Another toilet block (including disabled facilities) is located in the visitors' centre in front of the windmill.

Please note that the camping area is car-free; a separate parking area is available a short distance from the pitches. As this is a working brewery, early starts are possible.

Please note

The bar facilities are closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Tents are not accepted at this park.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Lovely little site next to the river and only a short walk from the town centre. Very peaceful and close to Gibraltar Point and other coastal walks.

    Disliked:

Portaloo toilets weren’t great but not really an issue. Also showers on site but didn’t use so cannot comment.

Close to the town, within easy walking distance. Being next to the river was nice and there was a walk along the river bank. The grass was well maintained.
The water and waste removal area was easily accessible.
There was wifi which is always a bonus.

    Disliked:

The constant hum from the brewery coolers was quite disconcerting at night. The dray lorries were loaded early (6 am ish) in the morning and it was very noisy.
The pitches weren't really wide enough and a lot of people had difficulty aligning up. If you had a large caravan and awning there was hardly room. Luckily, the site wasn't too busy. There were only two portaloos and one of them had a broken basin. The showers, although good, were up steps so not accessible for people with disabilities or mobility problems.
The electricity hook ups were in fours and this may have proved a problem if you were the furthest away. Twos are always better.
There wasn't any point of contact at the weekend so had there been a problem, there was no-one to contact.

The Site was well situated for a walk into town or a train ride into Skegvagas, The Toilets and Shower trailer where very clean, Emptying the Motorhome loo was ad added bonus, The pitches where large and the grass was well kept.

    Disliked:

The problem and lose and 1Star was that the Pitch (Pitch 4) had a tree smack in the middle of it, with the motorhome being 7m long if we had pitched to the right of the tree we would have overhung the entrance, we pitched to the left of the tree but this brought us within about 5 foot of the next motorhome, we pitched there one night and then moved to an empty pitch. The tree was also only a couple of inches from the top of the motorhome if it had been strong winds the branches would have been on the roof.

Location, at the brewery site, was open on Saturday and sampled the beer. Also a chance to have a brewery tour which we didnt do this time.
Just down the road is the village of Wainfleet, 2 pubs Angel and Woolpack, very friendly pubs
Before the village 3-4 min walk is Wainfleet train station, caught train to Skegness which takes about 12-15 mins right into centre of Skeg
Riverside location, our site was dog friendly, showers in the portacabin - about 7 of them, ok if your hair isnt too long, toilets good.
    Clean site
Everything we needed. Good sunsets. Sun all day
    Would definitely return
Was told the Suttons Chippy was very good too in Wainfleet village

Local attractions

While enjoying the present moment is lovely, a little bit of the past can liven up your holiday even more. That certainly rings true at the National Trust’s Gunby Hall and Gardens (15 minutes), where there's a country house of old, or the Bubblecar Museum (35 minutes), where it's possible to join in on ride days in historic microcars.

Another way to get around, there’s a horse riding centre (25 minutes) within driving distance of the site too. There are rare-breed horses at the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre (15 minutes) - just call in to meet all the residents. And for more animals, Lincolnshire Wildlife Park (10 minutes) or Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve (15 minutes) could be another port of call (binoculars are a handy accomplice for this second one).

While the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes) delivers when it comes to natural beauty and walks galore, it’s in Skegness (10 minutes) that the beach, aquarium and seal sanctuary take the spotlight. There’s all the activity of the rides at the Fantasy Island theme park (20 minutes) too, a good one for the kids in your group.

Must see
