Doddington Hall & Gardens (10 minutes’ drive), built during the late reign of Queen Elizabeth I, has an expansive network of (dog-friendly) estate trails, as well as padel courts. The West Garden is a riot of colour during the summer season, and the site also runs a lively calendar of events, from open-air theatre to jazz sessions. In Lincoln (15 minutes), the 11th-century cathedral and castle sit facing each other, separated only by two gates and a short walk.
