Fish pond

  • Peaceful and well-maintained basic site within the hamlet of Harrowby
  • Three miles from Grantham and 45 minutes' drive from Lincoln
  • Wildlife pond and woodland camping area within the site
A serene and scenic site that’s often treated to spectacular sunsets – how splendid. Head three miles out of Grantham to get to Harrowby and the greenery of Herigerbi Park. This peaceful, well-maintained site is on a one-acre slightly sloping paddock with woods all around and some fab views over the valley. There are regular appearances from the resident wildlife, and fish to be spotted in the site’s pond (they’re for ornament only though, mind you – no fishing here please). For that relaxed rural vibe this has been kept as a basic site, with facilities stretching to one toilet and a wash-hand basin in a renovated barn with electric light. It's all nicely maintained nevertheless: the grass is mown every week and all is kept neat around the paddock and site; there's easy access too to the grounds via the five-bar gates directly off the road. You’re welcome to light up a barbie for sausage sizzles; a food shop is within a mile and handily open late daily.

What customers say

This is a peaceful and well-maintained small campsite, praised for its cleanliness and friendly owners. Guests appreciated the tranquil atmosphere, beautiful views, and good value for money. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are consistently described as immaculate. While most visitors had a positive experience, some noted that pitches are on a slight slope, which may require chocks for larger vehicles. Accessibility of fresh water and the chemical disposal point were also raised as minor issues by one guest.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked The site was lovely, toilets shower were clean modern and functional, however, if you have a large campervan or motorhome there isn't any area of the site you can park up level without using chocks. The fresh water tap is impossible to access with a van so filling up with a hose pipe is impossible, I had to carry my water can by can across the field. The chemical disposal is functional, very crude and in an inaccessible place behind the outside kitchen down what felt like an abandoned track. I would definitely not stay again with a campervan, if you have a caravan or tent I imagine it would be a good hideaway site.

Disliked No level pitches, accessibility of fresh water pipe, location and condition of chemical disposal point.

From the manager: Hi Paul,
Thank you for your feedback. In response to your review, we are listed on Pitchup where you made your booking and it does state on the description that the site is on a one acre slightly sloping paddock so you should have been aware that you would more than likely need to bring chocks. We are a basic site and are happy to keep it this way and on the many conversations we’ve had with campers they seem more than happy for us to keep it that way. We hold licenses for tents, camper vans, motor homes and caravans and would not prevent any of these booking as you suggest to stick with tents and caravans.
We have no plans to take away the essence of what the field is by levelling out the pitches, as it is it works with nature and the slope provides the perfect run off for heavy rain and the fact that we are on almost the brow of the hill. We are surprised that you could not fill your van with water as the many motor homes we have had visiting us from all over Europe just reverse their vehicles next to the onsite caravan and use their hose pipes to fill up from the water tap.
Whilst you state the chemical waste is crude, you also state that it is functional which in our opinion is what it needs to be after all you are emptying toilet waste down there and doesn’t need bells and whistles😉 The chemical waste is located behind the stable block out of the way but not down an abandoned track probably about 20 feet around the back of the stable and I’m not sure how it can be inaccessible as the tank gets full with waste so somebody must be using it!
We are pleased you thought the site was lovely and that the toilets and shower were clean and functional so we got something right for you (phew)😅

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely field with a pond and small woodland area which made great for the kids exploring. This site also provides board games, books, colouring pens, a ball and more to entertain everyone. They also had a rack of different information leaflets/cards for local food places and taxis etc. The toilet, shower and washing up facilities were great too. Couldn't fault this site.

Liked Peaceful, spacious, surrounded by trees. The toilets and shower facilities were pleasant and better than I was anticipating, so credit to the hosts for that! Great value for money and perfect for a solo stopover for a basic facility campsite.

Disliked There’s nothing I disliked. It was great value for money, and a chilled pleasant place to stay.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked If you're looking for some peace in a quiet location that’s still close to everything—with clean facilities and hot water—this is certainly a place to visit. I considered not leaving a review to keep it a secret, but then I decided there might be other campers looking for the same thing: a place where I can have a great cuppa, enjoy the carpet-like grass, and use it as a temporary base for exploring the great spots nearby.

The owners did their best to provide a great experience, and I believe it’s up to us to keep these "secret" camping sites nice and tidy. So, if you're a camper looking for a hidden gem, don’t hesitate to visit Herigerbi Park.

Liked Lovely quiet little site, no road noise, just peace and tranquility. Toilets and shower are clean and perfectly adequate. Walks nearby. Owner was lovely, cheerful and welcoming. We will be back. The site is on a slight slope, so make sure you have the equipment to rectify this if in a motorhome.

Local attractions

Folks with a penchant for fine buildings will no doubt want to nab a couple of trips to nearby National Trust properties: the gorgeous town house and walled gardens of Grantham House are five minutes’ drive away, and there are often family-friendly events at Belton House (10 minutes) as well as a splendid porcelain collection, fab formal gardens and a huge adventure playground. Also worth a visit is Woolsthorpe Manor, 15 minutes away; at the former home of local clever clogs Isaac Newton you can even see the famed tree from which fell the apple that started giving him ideas. There are no world-changing trees at Easton Walled Gardens, 10 minutes away, but it’s a lovely visit to these restored 400-year-old gardens nonetheless (and there’s an excellent tearoom too). Scoot over to Sleaford in 20 minutes or so to visit the National Centre for Craft & Design or get up close to the planes at the friendly (and free) Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum. Big-city attractions are 45 minutes away in Nottingham.
