  • Small well-maintained site in the scenic Leicestershire countryside
  • Within 20 minutes' drive of Eye Brook Reservoir and Rutland Water
  • Dog-friendly site two miles from the nearest pub
Make yourself comfortable and soak up rural views over Leistershire's Welland Valley at Hidden Hideaway, a small-scale site two miles from the village of Hallaton. Hidden away (as the name suggests) in a spacious and sheltered camping field, these pitches are well-placed for idle or active breaks in Central England's pretty countryside. Staying here puts a good number of footpaths within easy reach, with a few rights of way directly accessible from the site. The pride and joy of Hidden Hideaway has to be the site's very well-maintained toilet and shower block (see the photos for a more detailed inspection). Other handy amenities are available here, including a nifty chemical disposal and grey water point. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome on site, but please make sure that they're on a lead at all times when out and about and kept outside of the facilities block. Hallaton's village pub (which is also dog-friendly) is a couple of miles away if you're on the hunt for relaxed drinks or a meal out, while for a supermarket shop you're best off heading to the several options available in Market Harborough (20 minutes' drive).

What customers say

This is a peaceful, well-maintained site with spacious pitches and beautiful rural views. Visitors praise the clean and modern facilities, the helpful and friendly owner, Ellie, and the quiet atmosphere. The site is well-located for walks and exploring nearby villages. Some guests noted queues for the toilet facilities during peak times, and occasional windiness. A small number of reviews mentioned uneven pitches or rough access roads.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great location! Out of the way with amazing views. Facilities were perfect, 2 separate bathrooms with toilet, sink and shower. Made it much easier to get ready than in shower cubicles. All facilities within short walk of all pitches. Ellie was lovely and felt very looked after. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Beautiful views, clean toilet and shower room, exceptional host. Animals around too which is amazing! This is a working farm so please be aware.

Ellie is so accommodating and gave us loads of tips of things to do, places to eat etc. You can even ask to see the tractors and be shown the farm.. great education for kids. Fire pits can be hired and wood purchased.

Ellie was even kind enough to lend us an electric hook up as ours broke on arrival. Such a small gesture but made our stay better.

The farm dogs, Fern and Bracken are an absolute joy.. beautiful dogs who love fuss but are also very respectful of you if dogs are not your thing.

The chickens think the lane is theirs so be careful on arrival and departure.. afterall, it is their home!! You are just a visitor.

We plan to visit again next season.. absolute 5* site for a peaceful and relaxing stay

Thank you Ellie 😊

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great pitch sizes, lovely toilet and shower blocks in a wooden cabin, playground area for the kids and a lovely view.
Ellie was in touch regularly and popped over to see us each day to check on how we were and if we needed anything.
Will absolutely be going back next year!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Stunning views, large flat pitches

Disliked Road through the farm yard not the best, owners dogs wondering free constantly trying to go in the tents and begging for food.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review we do read them and take all in to consideration, however it is always nice if you tell me things when you are on site and we can sort it even quicker, nothing was said to me during your stay.
My dogs are the bain of my life and unfortunately cant tell the difference between the guests that want them and the guests that don't, i do try and keep them away but when other guests actively call them up there it is very difficult.
The road through the farm, you are the first person to say something, it is a farm track i apologise it was not flat/level enough but I'm not sure i can really do anything about that and it also keeps people from going too fast through the yard where there are children and animals.
This was obviously not the site for you so i hope you find somewhere more to your taste for your next trip.

Nice site with friendly owners on a working farm.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Large pitches, electric included in price, central graveled access to all the pitches, rural location, minimal road noise if any. Friendly welcoming owners. Clean toilet/sink/shower cabin + washing up station and freezer. Everything you need.

Disliked This isn't really a dislike but the drinking water tap to the side of the shower cabin isn't in a very convenient location for filling up the on board water tank on most campervans unless you have a very long hose or drive your van onto the adjacent pitch. A tap on a free standing post closer to the driveway would be better. Luckily I had brought my own water and didn't need to fill up during my two night stay.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi thank you for your review. I hadn't actually thought of the location of the tap for motorhomes before and hadn't been told so it will be something that we add on for next year, and place in a convenient place.
Thank you

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very peaceful considering it is a working farm. The toilet block and washing area were impeccably clean and everything worked as it should.
There were only 3 out of 10 pitches full during our stay which was a great pity. This delightful little site deserves more visitors. A beautiful rural area with some really nice walks in the local area and local villages.
The primary reason for our visit was to observe the eclipse and to look out for the Perseid Meteor shower and 6 planet parade. The sky is far darker than home but Leicester, Loughborough and Market Harborough give off a glow at low level. Nontheless we saw an amazing display of stars, shooting stars and satellites.
Loads of wildlife to observe, we watched groups if Hares at dawn each morning. Ospreys, Red Kites, Buzzards Barn Owls all put in an appearance as did Swallows, Swifts, Lapwings, Linnets and many more.
We will be back to this lovely little site, hopefully it will have returned to green grassland and recovered from the drought.

Disliked Nothing to fault here.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Huge pitch & a 6m gap to the next pitch.
Clean toilets/showers.
Peaceful, other than a 5.45am wake up from dozens of mooing cows being moved (only 1 of our 2 night stay). Is a working farm.
Nice friendly owner.

Disliked Would be nice if fridge had freezer section for freezer blocks for coolboxes.
No real shade, so bring a gazebo.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we do look at them all and take notes of things to improve. Just to let you know, there is a freezer for guests to use in the honesty shed along with freezer blocks for you to borrow, if you had asked i could have pointed you in the right direction.
And yes we are a working farm so sometimes the cows are going to MOO unfortunately there is nothing i can do about that, but its better than a motorway or flight path so you can t have it all ways!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Peaceful setting
Fast response to any issues
Was happy for us to have friends over for the day

Disliked Showers went from freezing to dangerously hot (especially for children) and just dripped when other taps weee on

Very, very windy!

Owners dogs were free to roam which for us was fine as we have dogs (although not with us) but may not suit all campers. They were very friendly but not sure I agree with campers dogs having to be on lead at all times when owners dogs were free to roam. If we weren’t there to keep an eye the dogs would have been in the tents!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I apologise for the showers at the time we were struggling with the water pressured and lack of water, due to the continued drought in the area, we have though had a booster pump fitted so water pressure is back up to full force and the showers working as they should.

Not a lot i can do about the wind I'm afraid and as far as i am aware it was like it for the most of the country.

The dogs, the bain of my life as guests keep feeding them and actively encouraging them on to site, even though i try and keep them away, unfortunately they cant tell when one set of guests that have been feeding and playing with them leave and another set of guests that don't want them arrive.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great toilets and showers, hot water,no road noise, all you could hear was the birds and farm animals which was great.Fantastic views and walks. The owner is very helpful and friendly, was left a tool to help me remove my tent pegs as the ground was very hard as there had been no rain for several days.
Great little campsite.

Disliked Only thing was that it got a bit windy, but that cannot be helped being in a field in such a flat area! Also network reception was a bit hit and miss.

Local attractions

It's water, water everywhere at Hidden Hideaway – there's trout fishing and walking at Eye Brook Reservoir (20 minutes' drive), historic towpaths and waterside pubs at Foxton Locks (15 minutes), a big lake, birdwatching and waterpark at Rutland Water (20 minutes) and, for some indoor exercise, a public swimming pool in nearby Market Harborough (20 minutes). For a mix of meals out, bargain hunting and smart independent shops, head to nearby market towns like Market Harborough, Uppingham (20 minutes) or Oakham (30 minutes). The very special town of Stamford (35 minutes) over in Lincolnshire also warrants a day trip or two, especially if you're a fan of Georgian architecture. If you're on holiday with the kids, they'll likely appreciate visits to the National Space Centre in Leicester (45 minutes), Twycross Zoo (an hour and 10 minutes) or Drayton Manor Theme Park (an hour and 10 minutes). And for something more serene and sedate? The graceful gardens around Burghley House (45 minutes) and Belton House (an hour) will take care of that.
