  • Family-friendly Hertfordshire touring site near Waltham Cross
  • A 35-minute drive to Warner Bros. Studio Tour for Harry Potter fans
  • Easy access from the M25 and close to London train services
The words ‘camping’ and ‘London’ don't often go together – so when you find a site that manages both it’s well worth taking a look. Just to the north of the capital, Theobalds Park is in a handy Hertfordshire spot that gives you all the greenery and fresh air of a countryside campsite plus easy access to central London for days out. The hardstanding touring pitches here are set in lovely woodland surroundings with open grass areas and plenty of space to relax in the open air. Dogs and kids are welcome; the on-site launderette may prove useful for any muddy mishaps they might have. A motorhome service point is also provided, along with toilets and showers (including wheelchair-accessible facilities). Getting here should be nice and straightforward, as the location is very close to Junction 25 of the M25, where the orbital meets the A10. It’s just outside the town of Waltham Cross, putting it within easy reach of shops and places to eat (you’ll be allowed a barbecue on site, by the way, so pack yours if you fancy some alfresco cooking). The town’s railway station is a very useful facility as well, with services taking you into central London in about half an hour. Not that it’s all about city day trips when you stay here though – being in the outskirts means you’ll also be able to plan outdoor activities like walks, fishing and birdwatching or opt for some of outer London’s attractions like the Natural History Museum at Tring or the popular Warner Bros. Studio Tour.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great location for getting into town easy to find and you can avoid the ULEZ getting there but you very close . Great welcome from the site manager and the site has great size pitches with very good condition hook ups .
The facilities are plenty full and clean with lots of water points it all well kept .
Great for families with play areas and open space and as it's spacious peaceful enough for solos .

Disliked Some will complain about the hum from motorway traffic but it wasn't a prob for me at night

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Good overnight stop. Very welcome staff on arrival.

Disliked No speed bumps to slow traffic down.
Irresponsible drivers obviously have no consideration for children on site. Its an accident waiting to happen.

From the manager: Hi Christopher,
Thank you for your review. I have spoken with the lodge owners that have vehicles and reminded them that they too have to abide by the site speed limit of 5mph at all times. I'll keep a tighter control over this going forward.

Great site, excellent location, easy to get to.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Clean and tidy pitches, easy to find. This is a new site (new owner) and is up and running as a good site already, can only get better. Manager very engaging and polite/friendly. I will be staying again.

Disliked Not a dislike for me, but might be for others, hum from the motorway, it’s not intrusive, but if you want a good site just off the motorway, it’s something unavoidable.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The pitches were a great size and had a real countryside feel although you were in the London Suburbs.
The site has recently changed hands and a few amenities were unavailable such as laundry services, there were very few signs, a few time toilets had no toilet roll etc. All teething problems I’m sure 👍
There are cycle paths nearby to get out and about but it is 3 miles to the nearest town and train station

Disliked Lack of amenities
The road outside the park was quite narrow so you need to be alert when walking or cycling to the public bridleways and footpaths
No bus service so taxis required when you don’t have a car
No shops within a mile - no shop or bar on site

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Deborah,
Thank you for your review. I'm pleased to say that we are rectifying the teething issues on a daily basis :-) We now have the correct toilet roll papper for the dispensers (thank you for your help with the toilet rolls) We've also now had our laundry machines installed - ready for your next visit ;-)

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Everything was nice and tidy. Nice to hear woodpeckers and owls.

Disliked Nothing on site. The A10 traffic lights are a pain, but you are close to London.

From the manager: Hi Peter,
Thank you for your review. The sound of wildlife around the site is indeed great to hear and see. Theobalds main attraction is it's proximity to London, that does, as you note, come with a downside of the surrounding roads which can be busy.

Local attractions

London has to be the big attraction, of course – hop on the train for half an hour and you’ll be right there in one of the world's great cities. The list of things to do is almost endless – first-timers will definitely want to see landmarks like Big Ben, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace but there are heaps of interesting things around for all ages and tastes. If you don’t fancy the crowds of central London, take a look at local options – perhaps wandering in the gardens at Forty Hall Estate (five minutes' drive), meeting the animals at Willows Activity Farm (20 minutes) or exploring the eclectic exhibits at the Natural History Museum at Tring (45 minutes). Fans of a certain boy wizard will surely be delighted with the Warner Bros. Studio Tour (35 minutes) too. Fancy some outdoor time? Head to Lee Valley Country Park (10 minutes) for walks, fishing, birdwatching and cycling, or adrenaline activities at the Lee Valley White Water Centre. Epping Forest (15 minutes) is another good option for a long walk or bike ride.
