  • Wild camping at a Herefordshire farm with Black Mountains views
  • A 20-minute drive to Abergavenny; half an hour to Hereford
  • Village pub and well-stocked shop less than a mile away in Longtown
How lovely are the views from this Herefordshire campsite? A little look through the pics of Lower Bryn Campsite will give you a taster of the scenery that you’ll be surrounded by here – wherever you pitch, you'll be looking up to the Black Mountains and Cat’s Back (Crib y Garth). This site is part of a working farm, and it’s a peaceful wild camping setup with facilities stretching just to portable toilets. There’s no running drinking water, but bottled water is available to buy. Also on sale is firewood for your campfires; you're welcome to light fires and bring barbecues as long as you’re careful with them. Picking up bits for your barbecue or picnic should be easy enough, as there’s a well-stocked shop in the nearby village of Longtown (less than a mile away) and a couple of good butchers in Ewyas Harold (10 minutes' drive). Don’t fancy cooking? Longtown also has a welcoming pub serving up great food (to eat in or take away) as well as a good range of drinks for post-walk refreshments. Speaking of walks, you should have plenty of choice of great routes to choose from around here – for starters, the Offa’s Dyke Path is close by and the car park for the Black Mountain is a couple of miles away. All sorts of other outdoor activities (from llama walking to quad biking) are close by too, and the area has several castles and other other historic attractions to visit, including the city of Hereford (half an hour's drive).

Local attractions

Trails for walks and bike rides are plentiful around here – but if you're after something different, how about a llama trek with Golden Valley Llamas (10 minutes’ drive), go-karting and quad biking at Mountain Mayhem (10 minutes) or paintballing and Viking games at Battlelands Paintball (five minutes)? There’s also the option to go canoeing down the River Wye from Hereford (half an hour). While in Hereford, you should certainly check out the cathedral, the Mappa Mundi exhibition and the Black and White House Museum. For more historic attractions, visit Longtown Castle (five minutes), Grosmont Castle (20 minutes) and Llanthony Priory (25 minutes). National Trust - The Weir Garden (35 minutes) may well be on your schedule too, with Roman remains to be found among its 10 acres of riverside garden. A stop at Rowlestone Farm Ice Cream (10 minutes), to sample one of their many flavours of home-made ice cream, is a must – and there are more tempting treats in Abergavenny (20 minutes), along with a swimming pool, a cinema, and more lovely walks…
