What customers say
This beautiful, well-maintained campsite boasts stunning views of the Black Mountains. Guests consistently praise the exceptional hospitality of owner John, who is noted for his friendliness and attentiveness. Pitches are large and level, with spotless modern shower and toilet facilities. A river with rope swings and numerous walking paths enhance the experience. While the site is largely peaceful, some guests noted that limited facilities, particularly the combined toilet/shower cubicles, can lead to queues during busy periods. The remote location contributes to its tranquility.

Non-electric grass pitch (large, mountain view, riverside)
Liked Beautiful setting and location and very well-maintained site.
Modern and very clean toilet/shower block with plenty of space - which can be a rarity in camping facilities!
John was very welcoming and was more than happy to share local info with us on arrival and for us to leave our van on-site as a base whilst out walking on check-out day.
The best factor was that he was more than happy for our lovely Labrador to be off the lead and enjoying her stay as much as we did! (a huge bug bear of ours at many campsites who insist on dogs on leads ‘just becuase’)
15 min walk to the local pub and a great location for walking straight up into the Black Mountains

 Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked We had a fantastic August Bank holiday weekend at Cayo, along with friends we were able to pitch our tents together and the site was clean and safe- perfect for our children. John was really helpful from booking to when we arrived and he came and checked on us frequently.
Disliked It was a super busy weekend and whilst they did all they could to accommodate there were queues for the showers and for the toilets to brush teeth in the evening. Would suggest a couple more showers/ sinks would be helpful.

Would go again if more facilities were added.
 Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Beautiful campsite with lovely views
Disliked Clearly overbooked for the amount of facilities they have. Only 4 shower blocks that kept clogging up. Also only one washing up sink. Long queues to wash up

Beautiful site, large & level pitches, no overcrowding….
 Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Amazing…what a welcome by John, so so friendly and kind, helping with anything during our stay. The showers and toilets spotless, laying out of the site considered and atmosphere magical, (especially at night with the twinkly lights!!)
Matt also a great asset to the site, on hand and there to help anyone who needed it, delivering the all important wood bundle for the evening fires, personally collecting your rubbish, etc. Overall, a most enjoyable camping experience with the beautiful back drop of the Black Mountains, l would highly rate the Cayo Retreat….we will definitely be back
