The New Inn: Hutty outside

General

  • Peaceful rural Herefordshire glamping site with easy access to walks
  • A 10-minute drive from Hay-on-Wye and half an hour from Hereford
  • Stunning views over the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons

Get a load of the gorgeous glamping units at The New Inn, a spacious site in the tiny Herefordshire village of Brilley on the Welsh borders, then soak up the vast views over the Wye Valley, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Had your fill of seeing the scenery from afar? Dive deep into it during a walk: this is fine wandering country as trails run from the site’s gates out into the rural surrounds and on to the Offa’s Dyke Path.

Bike rides are popular too, and the folk here can hook you up with a hire company that delivers to your door if you’ve not been able to bring wheels. You could also amble down to the River Wye for a bit of canoe paddling (25 minutes’ walk) or browse for books in the literary town of Hay-on-Wye (10 minutes’ drive).

After roaming the countryside, come back to your characterful and eco-conscious glamping unit in the grounds of an 18th-century stone house that was once a drovers inn. A stream runs through the site and there’s plenty of space to chill out and take in the views. Each of the units also has its own private outdoor area, along with access to a private bathroom and kitchen facilities.

Dogs are welcome at this park, but please note that the accommodation is not suitable for kids under the age of seven.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Guests under the age of 7 are not allowed on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Please note that dogs younger than 1 year old are not permitted on site.

  • Liked:

The location is quite peaceful up in the hills, with only minor traffic noise. Both the Bijou and the Dewachen were really kitted out very well, with everything we needed, including hot water, a bbq, fire pit, outdoor bath/shower, mains electricity, and comfy duvets.

    Disliked:

The only small issue we had was that we’re both 1m90 tall, and the beds were too short in Bijou, so we moved from Bijou to Dewachen, which Daphne kindly arranged.

Everything! The cottage is extremely quaint, truly rustic and cosy. We loved it. The owner and her gorgeous dog were warm and welcoming. The surrounding area is stunning and Hay on Wye is a great favourite. Lots of activities nearby or perfect for simply relaxing. We can’t wait to go back soon.

Beautiful, inspiring, relaxing and peaceful surroundings. Low impact credentials and gentle honest ethos to the environment were refreshing. The accommodation was clean, fully equipped and very private. The outdoor bath was liberating and serene amongst the willow, hazel and wildlife. 4G signal was not great which allowed me a chance to really disconnect from life and isolate.

Everything! If you want a true escape to nature and the beauty she offers, this is the place to be. Its quirky, with lots of lovely little touches like the fairy lights inside and the recycling of stained glass windows....its just magical! The outside bathtub was just wonderful. We stayed in the Rising Sun cabin. Its totally private & so peaceful with the most incredible views. We can't wait to come back. Thank you Daphne & Carla for sharing your little bit of peace & tranquility.

Absolutely brilliant stay at the Granny's Cottage at New Inn. As it says in the description, it's not 5* hotel, but a quirky little cottage, with a toasty Rayburn, all the essentials you'd need for a break and a helpful host. We went for a few walks just outside the cottage itself. The boat Inn down the road was good for food, but book a taxi ahead or you'll end up with a steep walk home up an unlit road. Daphne was a really friendly and helpful host. Sent us lots of advice beforehand so we could make our plans. We brought our own games to play at the cottage which proved useful when we had plans cancelled due to bad weather. There is patchy WiFi and 4g so you're not totally cut off, but I wouldn't rely on it for streaming etc (not sure why you'd want to do this on a break here anyway though really.)

Overall, a lovely stay and would return. Thanks Daphne 😊
