General

  • Small, family-run site in the village of Lea, close to pub and shop
  • 10 minutes' drive from Ross-on-Wye and the Forest of Dean
  • Easy access to the A40 and bus stops in the village

A rural retreat with gorgeous valley views by day and some stonking starry skies by night – how fab. That same rural retreat with easy access to the main road and bus stops, and a short stroll from the village shop and pub – how doubly fab.

This splendid setup is at Greenacres Glamping, a small friendly family-run site in the little Herefordshire village of Lea, 10 minutes’ drive from Ross-on-Wye. Comings and goings are pleasingly easy here, as it’s just off the A40 and close to the village’s bus stops (excellent news for folks who’d like to leave their wheels behind for a bit). A small shop is in the village, and the pub’s got the added bonus of an attached curry restaurant to spice things up a bit.

Those with outdoorsy activities on their action plan are in luck around here: it’s only around a 15-minute drive to hit walking trails in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or canoe trips on the River Wye. Folks who’d rather roam on horseback need only trot next door to saddle up at the local stables for a lesson or a hack.

Fancy an alfresco cookout? Barbecues and campfires are both welcome, and there’s a little labyrinth to lose the kids in for a bit while you get the flames going. Other amenities include wifi, a washing-up area, a fridge-freezer and a heated shower block with individual cubicles.

Arrival was made really easy with clear instruction via email before our stay plus more instructions left in the tent for when we got there.

Great facilities for cooking but if I were to go again I would probably take our portable stove so we could have more pans on the go (or I just need to realise we are camping and I cant cook a gourmet meal! God loves a trier!) There was also a big box of equipment inside the tent, plates, cups, knives, forks etc. We made use of the fridge on the second day which was a great addition as all of our cool blocks had defrosted in the good weather.

The bed was so comfortable and we didn't even need the log burner inside so I cant comment on that. The interior was fresh and clean and very roomy.

Location wise was fantastic we were just a short drive away from the May Hill national park and surrounded by some lovely dog friendly pubs which were no more than a 10 minute drive.

    Disliked:

The only thing would be more clothes hooks in the shower room! Struggled with towels and clothes etc but that's coming from an inexperienced camper!

A small site set within a quite village, the local area has lots to offer from canoeing to go ape climbing, lots of places to walk and explore, and theres also a small town all within a 20minute drive.
The site has a newly built toilet block and the tent we stayed in was very clean on arrival and had a gas camp kitchen and utensils supplied. There’s also a fire pit which the kids quite happily sat by in the evening to toast their marshmallows🙂.

Loved the bell tent. Everything you needed, was all so clean and new. Slept so well.

Beautiful view over the hills and right near the shop and a very friendly pub

So much to do, we canoed and also went horse riding right next to the site. Brilliant

Email check in so easy and help there on end of the mobile if you needed it.

    Disliked:

Showers were a bit cold...but we managed and am sure would have been fixed if we asked.

Is very near centre of village and the A40, we didn't look on google earth beforehand and found the convenience of it brilliant, but you may get a surprise if you expect to be in middle of nowhere!

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We really appreciate the feedback.

We have now installed a whole new boiler system which offers much more control of the temperature so no more cold showers.

We hope to host you again as we are continuously improving.

Loved the site, clean tent, beautiful shower block, superb facilities provided with the pitch. Great views, peace and quiet, safe for the kids (age 7) to wander in, amazing night skies and friendly site owners! Will be back soon!

    Disliked:

Not a dislike but a better bin / recycling area would be good to help our eco-friendliness!

From the manager...

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and we too often enjoy the night sky. We have all been watching the international space station whizz across the sky!
We are currently designing a new facility area at the bottom of the site that will cater to all sorts of things and waste management is a top priority.
Hopefully, when you come back you will see the changes that have been made.
Thank you for being such great guests.

    Disliked:

Its not dislike, but cool box a bit of nightmare trying to get ice as when there very warm and supermarket ran out in ross.Perhaps little fridge be better as clamping.Think with tent position little to close to caravan next door to us,be better down near hedge at bottom or half way.But lovely site lovely folk all great.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your kind words.
We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay
In regards to your other comments, we are taking action. We are aiming to remove the caravan pitch altogether from the site. We have now installed a fridge and a freezer in our shower building to make it easier to get ice on site.

Thanks again and we hope to see you again in the future!

We were made to feel so welcome as soon as we arrived, including our puppy. The tent was AMAZING my boys loved it. We had a huge field for our dog to play on. Very relaxed environment, nothing was a bother to ask Neil who was there to help. Lovely little touches to the tent, stove, al cooking equipment, decorated lovely and very comfortable.

    We will be back :-)
