General
- Close to the historic town of Ludlow
- A mile from Croft Castle and Parkland
- Sustainable and low-impact approach
Just one traditional hand-made Mongolian yurt sits at Gold Acre close to northern Herefordshire's Welsh border – which as you might guess should guarantee peaceful hols of a sunny disposition.
The yurt has been set up to be as sustainable as poss for those who like to holiday in a low-impact and environmental way but who still like to settle down in a toasty indoors location with a goodly amount of comforts close to hand.
It has traditional Mongolian furniture, log burner and handmade rugs and cushions for snuggly warm evenings, and access to a compost loo and outdoor camp shower with hot water exclusively to the yurt. A well-equipped camp kitchen with a gas-powered stove and oven is just outside. (Do dine alfresco and by the campfire: the night skies around here are huge with little light pollution.)
Gold Acre is ten minutes' drive from the restaurants, shops, cafés and castle of the old town of Ludlow, and a mile from the woodland, farm and parkland surrounding Croft Castle. The local village of Yarpole has a well-stocked grocery shop and café inside an old church as well as the Bell Inn serving food.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

Local attractions
Take to your feets first of all, as a fair bit to see and do is around Gold Acre within walking distance.
Croft Castle, set in a couple of thousand acres' worth of lakes, forests and parkland, is a mile from your yurt through Yarpole village. It's open to the public and has tearooms, an adventure play castle (hurrah), a walk up to the Croft Ambrey hill fort, and regular events including battle re-enactments and art installations throughout the year.
Paintballing, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking and treetop adventuring are at Oaker Wood Leisure just over a mile from the village and the Offa's Dyke path is nearby.
Slightly further afield, try the national championship jumps, rocks, drops and different lines of the mountain biking routes at Bringe Forest eight miles away, or canter on horseback overlooking Ludlow in Mortimer Forest.
Take to the skies via the trial flights and small plane hire at Shobdon Airfield or float over to the nearby microlight flying, gliding and helicopter rides. The World War II café Hotspurs is about 15 minutes by car and is open daily.
