General

  • Romantic and peaceful Herefordshire hideaway in a wildlife haven
  • Welcome pack (and wine) provided on arrival
  • Two miles from Kingsland village

Hide away in the Herefordshire countryside at Acorn Yurt, developed for loved-up couples looking for luxury and peace... the added extras are pretty special too.

Acorn Yurt is a quiet horse-breeding farm where guests are guaranteed full countryside peace and an outdoors hol with luxury included. It's in an area with topping scenery and lots of wildlife to see and hear: look out for red deer trotting around or up for red kites gliding...

The team at Acorn Yurt prides itself in thinking of everything a guest might want on a romantic break, from sparkling wine on ice ready for arrival, to chocolates on the pillow, fresh flowers in abundance, ample wood for the woodburner and more for the brazier, charcoal for the barbecue, and cupboards filled with sundries so you can have ketchup on your (complimentary) breakfast eggs or jam on your morning toast.

The yurt interior is French-inspired and has a full-sized bed, woodburner and comfy seats. All bed linen, towels, wood, gas (and even loo roll) is included; just bring your good self and a torch. No food is needed on the first night either as the yurt price includes a welcome pack stuffed with food – and wine.

The kitchen is next to the yurt and has a gas stove, sink, plenty of storage and crockery and cooking utensils. The loo is behind the kitchen and there's a nearby building with charging points, shower, a fridge and a freezer.

Nearby, Kingsland village two miles away has two good pubs, a garage, a shop, a post office and a church.

Everything about our stay was just wonderful. Candy is so warm & welcoming & the goodies provided (especially the prosecco) were delightful. The Yurt is so elegantly done & the facilities quaint & cute. The views are quite breath taking, the sunset was just so romantic. Saw two Kites flying around on the first day, fantastic!! Kingsland has two pubs offering good menus & an interesting Church to peak around. We recommend anyone who stays at the Yurt to visit Croft Castle & Ludlow Castle. We were lucky to visit Ludlow on a market day & pick up some books at a bargain from a charming Gentleman who ran the stall. Thank you Candy & well done :-D

Lovely and different accommodation, of a high standard and lovely extras such as chocs and wine on arrival. Candy made us most welcome but was not intrusive so we could enjoy a quiet romantic break together. Everything was of a high standard and lovely and clean. Beautiful location.

    Disliked:

The weeds on the path to shower... a better step down from the lawn, as I have dodgy knees- small thing but did struggle a little in the wet. Perhaps- towelling robes could be provided to go to the Shower? A small thing- just an idea.

We stayed at Acorn Glamping last weekend for one night and it really is a lovely, relaxing retreat in the Herefordshire countryside.

On arrival, Candy was there to greet us and was incredibly warm and welcoming.

There was a lovely basket of provisions waiting for us and the kitchen was well stocked.  My partner and I are vegetarian and veggie options had been provided for breakfast. There is a toilet and kitchen right beside the yurt and a shower just across the field.

The yurt is amazing, instantly we felt so relaxed and it was so warm and cosy. There were chocolates and prosecco provided.  With the fairy lights twinkling away, wood burner on the go, wine and choccies in hand, what more could you want. The snacks that Candy provided were very well received.

We spent Saturday evening relaxing in the yurt, then we headed into the nearest village, Kingsland, for a meal. The pub we visited was The Angel and I would really recommend it, really lovely food and nice atmosphere.  It was very busy though and we were very lucky to get the only table for two available so perhaps if you go on a weekend night book in advance.

The yurt is on it’s own, and you don’t have to share facilities with anybody else. The next morning, it was wonderful waking up to the lovely views and horses grazing in the field beside us. We hope to return again next year, ideally for two nights as I really would love to explore the area a little more.

This was just what we needed and I would highly recommend this lovely little glamping retreat and really hope to be able to return one day.  I’ve even thought of booking to take my sister and nephew as it’s a wonderful little adventure.  You really don’t need to worry about bringing anything but yourself and enjoy.

Directions

We are within view of both the Welsh Borders and Shropshire, but still in Herefordshire.

From Kingsland centre, turn besides The Corners Inn, leaving the inn on your right. Follow road out of village for about 1 mile, and just over the brow of a hill, you will see a small crossroads with some grey metal railings. Here turn left towards Mortimers Cross and Lucton. Follow lane for about 3/4 of a mile, and after going around a sharp right handed bend, pass first a cottage then a farm both on your right. After passing the farm, look for woodland on your left, about 200 yards further along. Turn left through the woodland into our drive which has a sign showing Fowden Farm. Follow drive up to house and park here.

From Lucton, turn off main road directly besides the school, a grand Georgian building. Follow this lane without turning off, passing the right turning back for Lucton village. Continue down for about half to 3/4 of a mile, and look out for woodland on your right. Turn down into this woodland driveway, with the sign indicating Fowden Farm.

Local attractions

You won't find theme parks, waterparks or busy noisy attractions in the area around Acorn Yurt, just a pile of peace and quiet set in miles of cracking countryside.

Close by is the National Trust-managed stately home of Croft Castle, with views over the adjacent counties and long walks through its ancient woodland. Also anciently, the medieval town of Ludlow is just over the hill and well worth a lazy day around its castle, markets and cobbled streets.

Or just take to the car and drive leisurely around the local villages, many with the Herefordshire black and white houses, and most with something original to see.
