  • Modern, well-maintained rural park 20 minutes' drive from Hereford
  • Half an hour’s drive to Ludlow; 10 minutes to Hampton Court Castle
  • Smart adult-only site with gardens and a bar; breakfast can be ordered
If you’re feeling the need for a peaceful, adults-only break on a well-maintained and spotless contemporary campsite, have a look at The Shires Park. This holiday park has far-reaching views over Herefordshire countryside, and it's only about a half-hour drive from the fab foodie town of Ludlow. Spread over fields edged by carefully tended, manicured gardens, the site has loads of facilities to make things easy for guests, from a spotless shower and loo block to a splendid bar in a converted barn, where work by local artists is exhibited (making a handy distraction on any rainy days) with lots of bench seating outside for alfresco drinks in sunny weather. Friendly staff are on hand here, and food needs are taken care of too, as breakfasts packed into picnic hampers can be provided by prior request. Barbecues are permitted – but if that’s all too much like hard work, there are several foodie pubs within 10 minutes’ drive where you can grab a bite to eat. Sticking to the self-catering? Replenish supplies at the local community shop (five minutes’ drive) and pick up artisan cider from the apple orchards nearby.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Toilets and showers are better than some hotels I’ve stayed in. Communal area with picnic tables , a bar and very friendly and welcoming owner.

Disliked Nothing . Did have issue booking with pitch up . It only let me book one night. When I spoke to the owner she had plenty of availability so booked another three nights.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Want this view to wake up to? a licenced chilled friendly bar to chill in and enjoy great company before bed, not to mention award winning toilets, shower block and dedicated dog run area, well look no further.

The Shires Park site has it all and being adult only no tantrums in the early hours as well, apart from myself trying to find the zip to get in tent after star gazing at 2am as there is no light pollution.

The pub on site also does amazing breakfasts that can be ordered the night before and has fire pits and bbqs available for sale and hire.

The hosts are brilliant and genuinely care about customers, safe to say we'll be back asap.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had a great stay at The Shires Park and absolutely loved it! The campsite was really easy to find, the owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the whole site was beautifully clean and well kept.

We had a great secluded pitch at the bottom of the field and loved having the fenced dog run for our dog. The facilities were excellent, with spotless toilets and lovely hot, powerful showers. The on-site bar was also really well stocked, and although we didn’t try the breakfast sandwiches, they smelt amazing!

We also enjoyed a walk to the local pub, The Three Horseshoes Inn, which served lovely home-cooked food.

We stayed for two nights and genuinely loved every minute. A fantastic campsite that we’d highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be back! ❤️

Local attractions

The lovely town of Ludlow (half an hour’s drive) is a joy to explore for its 11th-century castle and ancient cobbled streets. After admiring the half-timbered buildings and poking about in its food shops and market, relax with a cuppa in a tea shop or sneak into a historic pub for a glass of local cider. Opt for Hereford (20 minutes) to learn about the county’s cider-making tradition at Hereford Cider Museum – or, if spirits are more your thing, you can taste and buy local gins and vodkas at Chase Distillery (five minutes). To tick a couple of stately homes off your list, tour the magnificent Jacobean manor at Hampton Court Castle (10 minutes), or have a potter around 18th-century interiors stuffed with period furniture at National Trust - Berrington Hall (20 minutes). Prefer to be out and about in the countryside? There are several golf clubs within 15 minutes’ drive, or you might like to follow the waymarked trails through woodland at Haugh Wood Butterfly Trail (20 minutes), keeping your eyes open for elusive butterflies. Stockton Bury Gardens has seasonal floral displays to discover, while at Newbridge Farm Park (both 15 minutes) you can befriend donkeys, emus and alpacas.
