  • Modern, well-maintained rural park 20 minutes' drive from Hereford
  • Half an hour’s drive to Ludlow; 10 minutes to Hampton Court Castle
  • Smart adult-only site with gardens and a bar; breakfast can be ordered
If you’re feeling the need for a peaceful, adults-only break on a well-maintained and spotless contemporary campsite, have a look at The Shires Park. This holiday park has far-reaching views over Herefordshire countryside, and it's only about a half-hour drive from the fab foodie town of Ludlow. Spread over fields edged by carefully tended, manicured gardens, the site has loads of facilities to make things easy for guests, from a spotless shower and loo block to a splendid bar in a converted barn, where work by local artists is exhibited (making a handy distraction on any rainy days) with lots of bench seating outside for alfresco drinks in sunny weather. Friendly staff are on hand here, and food needs are taken care of too, as breakfasts packed into picnic hampers can be provided by prior request. Barbecues are permitted – but if that’s all too much like hard work, there are several foodie pubs within 10 minutes’ drive where you can grab a bite to eat. Sticking to the self-catering? Replenish supplies at the local community shop (five minutes’ drive) and pick up artisan cider from the apple orchards nearby.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite is praised for its exceptional, spotlessly clean facilities, including powerful showers and well-maintained communal areas. Owners Andy and Di are consistently described as incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive, going above and beyond to ensure a positive guest experience. The site offers lovely extras like a dog run, a well-stocked bar with a beer garden, and the option to hire fire pits and BBQs. While the majority of guests found the site peaceful, a few noted occasional noise from other party groups and some traffic noise from a nearby road. Despite minor issues with shower temperature for some, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests stating they will definitely return.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This is not just a camping site. This is an oasis! The owners make you feel like a family - they have such good energy. The site is pristine clean and maintained better than National Trust gardens. There was a communal fridge available for use, bar, breakfast available, fire pit to rent with wood. There were perfumes in the bathroom (seriously!). Plenty of lovely walks around. We stayed in a tent but there are really nice cabins to rent as well at very reasonable prices. I would certainly come back - this is a gem of a place.

Disliked Some loud guests on 1 night

Local attractions

The lovely town of Ludlow (half an hour’s drive) is a joy to explore for its 11th-century castle and ancient cobbled streets. After admiring the half-timbered buildings and poking about in its food shops and market, relax with a cuppa in a tea shop or sneak into a historic pub for a glass of local cider. Opt for Hereford (20 minutes) to learn about the county’s cider-making tradition at Hereford Cider Museum – or, if spirits are more your thing, you can taste and buy local gins and vodkas at Chase Distillery (five minutes). To tick a couple of stately homes off your list, tour the magnificent Jacobean manor at Hampton Court Castle (10 minutes), or have a potter around 18th-century interiors stuffed with period furniture at National Trust - Berrington Hall (20 minutes). Prefer to be out and about in the countryside? There are several golf clubs within 15 minutes’ drive, or you might like to follow the waymarked trails through woodland at Haugh Wood Butterfly Trail (20 minutes), keeping your eyes open for elusive butterflies. Stockton Bury Gardens has seasonal floral displays to discover, while at Newbridge Farm Park (both 15 minutes) you can befriend donkeys, emus and alpacas.
