General

  • Small quiet site on a working dairy farm in the Wye Valley
  • Chepstow, Puzzle Wood and Tintern Abbey within a 15-minute drive
  • Pop-up farm shop on site selling farm-produced milk and ice cream

Pitches at Chase Farm are in the grounds of a small family-run Gloucestershire dairy farm in the Wye Valley, 10 minutes’ drive north of Chepstow and 20 minutes from Lydney.

Close to the border between England and Wales, this site has far-reaching views across the River Severn towards Bristol, and is surrounded by fields and woodland. Set well back from any main roads, the pitches here are pretty peaceful, although you may well hear a tractor or two going about their business from time to time.

And of course you’ll most likely be able to listen in on the resident cows too: they generally graze the fields next to the site, eating up all the grass that helps them produce properly creamy milk. Guests can sample the fresh milk for themselves as it’s bottled and sold at the farm gate shop (and some of it goes into producing ice cream, which you can also pick up here alongside fresh eggs and other local produce).

Getting out for a walk is a must around these parts – there are lots of trails to follow in nearby forests, or you can set out on a woodland trail from the farm to reach the Offa’s Dyke Path and Devil’s Pulpit viewpoint in about five minutes. Canoeing, crazy golf and the treetop trails of Go Ape are all within a 20-minute drive for a bit of different activity.

Lisa and the team were very friendly and welcoming. There was a very relaxed atmosphere. Our children loved seeing all the animals and really enjoyed feeding the lambs, stroking the horses and holding the guinea pigs. Some lovely woodland walks in the local area including a view of Tintern Abbey. Great pop up shop with ice cream and milk made on the farm. Yum!

    Disliked:

The toilets were fine, did smell a bit
The showers weren't overly clean but with so many people using it I guess it's to be expected.

A nice quiet place to stay. Everyone was respectful of the young children sleeping at night and therefore wasn’t making a lot of noise at night. Really enjoyed the ice cream, especially biscoff!. The small shop sold eggs, bacon, sausage, burgers and other essentials you may need. Everyone was friendly and respectful of each other. Liked the fact you could pitch where you wanted. View was good.

    Disliked:

The showers aren’t the best but did the job. One of the showers you have to wait a while until the water drains before you can get changed, but the other had a separate room, therefore was fine. Out of the 3 nights we were there, the shower was cold once, therefore had to go back a little later. The toilets don’t smell the best, but it’s a campsite so offers the basics that you would expect.

We just stayed for a night but it was great. Spacious, and a nice area. It feels like wild camping but there are a number of men and women toilets of an excellent standard. They have a shower and an area for cleaning dishes and also disposing of rubbish if you don't want to take it with you. Everyone was very respectful of the site.

Lots of open grassy space. Lovely views across the valley. Farm produce for sale. Nice campfires and wood for sale. The site has potential with investment and appreciate we did visit at a very busy time.

    Disliked:

Chemical Toilets in temporary building very smelly. Two showers and one washing up sink completely inadequate for number of units over the bank holiday weekend. No wash room and toilet sinks too small and cramped to use for anything other than hands.
