  • Forest of Dean pitches on the banks of the River Severn
  • A 20-minute drive to Puzzlewood; half an hour to Symonds Yat
  • Dog-friendly café on site for breakfast and lunch seven days a week
What a location this is for an open-air stay… book a break here and you can wake up to stunning views over the River Severn before strolling over to the on-site café to get your day off to a tasty start with a cooked breakfast (or just a bacon bap and a coffee if that’s more your style…) Silver Fox Café and Camping is in a prime position here, right on the riverbank within the Forest of Dean, and with the Gloucestershire village of Newnham about half a mile away for shops and other essentials. The A48 is handily just outside too, so you’ll be able to get out and about easily enough for activities and days out (and there are a couple of pubs close by too for a little drink once you’ve made it back). There’s a great atmosphere at this family-run site, and it’s small enough to be able to offer a real personal service to all guests. Dogs are welcome both on site and in the café, and there’s plenty of space to spread out a little bit on the pitches. Amenities are sorted with a shower and toilet block on site. Surely the biggest draw here though is the café, which is open seven days a week to serve up a range of breakfasts, lunches and hot and cold drinks – plus a carvery for Sunday lunch too.

What customers say

This is a friendly, relaxed campsite with a great on-site cafe serving excellent food. Reviewers praised the welcoming and helpful staff, dog-friendly atmosphere, and beautiful river views. Facilities are basic but generally clean. Some visitors noted road and rail noise, a lack of showers during busy periods, and un-marked pitches. The site is considered good value for a short break or exploring the local area.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked The onsite cafe is pretty good and staff seem nice and there’s a pub just down the road it’s quite expensive at the pub but nice ..

Disliked The grass is very poor in fact it’s not really grass it’s all dead and very dry so that was a bit disappointing .. it’s a small site and it’s rite by a busy main road

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked The staff were very helpful and friendly. Came and introduced selves when we were set up. Breakfast in cafe was amazing. Location is good. Near the river and a nice pub.

Disliked The road was very noisy and there is a very loud train track, had freight trains until early hours the Friday night. A little too basic for us. Ground was very hard due to the prev hot weather which is not the campsites fault.

Liked Loved the size of the campsite, really nice quiet place to be, some things for the kids to play on, toilet and shower block basic but clean and tidy. Of course being attached to a fantastic cafe, open all day serving great food is a bonus!

Liked The cafe and staff are fantastic, the food is excellent for the price and the staff are very friendly .

Disliked The shower and toilet block could be cleaner and it would be a good idea to have the pitches marked out . We also found that WiFi only works in the cafe and garden
