  • Small family-run site on an organic cattle farm
  • Adjacent to the River Severn and close to the Severn Way
  • Community-owned village pub within walking distance
Set in a perry pear orchard on an organic cattle farm: that sounds almost poetic. As are the views from the spectacularly scenic little place of West End Farm Campsite, set in the horseshoe bend of the River Severn on the edge of the peaceful Gloucestershire village of Arlingham, and adjacent to the river with easy access to the footpaths of the Severn Way. A rather smashing pub is within easy walking distance too: the Red Lion freehouse (owned by the village, hurrah) with tiptop locally sourced food, real ale and regular events like quiz nights and folk nights – all just the ticket after a peaceful pedal or serene stroll along the river paths or region's quiet flat roads…? West End Farm has a toilet block and chemical disposal. Both barbecues and campfires are allowed on site.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, rural campsite set in beautiful countryside with easy access to River Severn walks. Visitors praised the quiet atmosphere, spacious and level pitches, and clean facilities. The nearby village pub and farm cafe were also popular. While some found the facilities basic or noted minor issues with cleanliness or noise from farm life and wildlife, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests looking forward to returning.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely little site, tucked away by the banks of the river Severn. Pub selling very good food in the village, cafe next door and several walks from the site. Facilities are basic but quite usable for a short break. Good sized, well maintained pitches and grounds. Children’s play area is just by the church on the lane that leads to the site.

Disliked Although quite usable the toilet block wasn’t quite as clean as it could have been. Some noise from the working farm next door. There’s no phone signal… this is not necessarily a bad thing

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked We loved the flat open pitches with discreet hedging. Had no need for the ehu on this occasion but the amenity chalet was perfectly fine with 3 well fitted bathrooms for mixed sexes and a hot water washing-up sink. There was also a large firepit available. And a standpipe and recycling point at the other end.
There are plenty of dog walks just off the site along the Severn Way or inland towards Frampton and Canal. There's also a restored village pound and a well fenced dog running field nearby.
The owners have recently opened a farm shop and café which we'll try next visit.
The local community pub and pretty village were a bonus.

Disliked Some farm noise and smells

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nice small site nice walks and pub nearby

Disliked Came here last year as a so quiet. This time noise kids at 6am running about and dogs barking. Our dog was quiet as always . Toilets and showers were not very clean and no sigh of being cleaned over weekend . Washing up area pours over your feet when you empty plug . Would be a shame if the camp site gets neglected over the coffee shop

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Area and the site excellent location and cuisine at the Red Lion pub fantastic Also quiet with nature all around

Disliked Campsite facilities basic which is ok but not when they are not clean . Bins full. One shower room for male one for female and a shared toilet with no paper . More campers came in the night when we stayed glad we only stayed one night as would have waited some time to use facilities . When offering. Toilets and showers would expect these to be cleaned daily which theses obviously were not looked like hadn’t been cleaned for sometime !

Electric grass pitch

Liked Small, so peaceful, friendly people next to us, great pub up the road, so many birds and animals! Their farm cafe (Fri-Sun) is a real gem, too. The most delicious berries and yogurt, and very good coffee, in a lovely barn with well-spaced seating, a big play area for kids, dog friendly… toilet block is small but adequate for the size of the site (at least when not at capacity). I knocked off a star for lack of soap and loo roll more than once, but otherwise good condition, roomy, and comfortable showers.

Disliked City folks should have the sense to realise that a working farm will smell like a working farm! I loved it. My partner quickly got used to it 😉

Local attractions

West End Farm Campsite's local village is Arlingham, also in the River Severn's horseshoe bend and just off Junction 13 of the M5. The area around the village is fab walking and cycling land, of public footpaths, riverside ambles and flat peaceful roads – all set among the first-class scenery of the England/Wales border area. (Don't know where to start? Ask at the Red Lion for details of their hare, salmon, cattle and skylark wanders.) A couple of miles from the farm is the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, running between Sharpness and the old docks of Gloucester. It's a pleasant place to while away a few meandering hours, particularly around Patch Bridge, close to the Wildfowl Reserve at Slimbridge which has the world's biggest collection of captive wildfowl. Other local options are Berkeley and the Edward Jenner Museum, where the clever chap first figured out vaccination, and Berkeley Castle, where poor old Edward 2 met his grisly end. Gloucester Cathedral is nine miles from the site; a little further afield are the Norman castle of Goodrich and the Tudor National Trust-managed house of Newark Park.
