Summer is here!

  • Well-maintained and peaceful park set alongside the River Cam
  • A 10-minute drive from the edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape
  • Pub site with beer garden; many country walks nearby
Hurrah, a pub site, and what a nicely named – and nicely placed – one too. Picture this: Riverside Caravan Park at The George is a peaceful, popular and very friendly park set along the wildlife haven of Gloucestershire's River Cam, with its own old-style family inn serving up home-cooked local food and traditional ales and ciders at reasonable prices (it should also certainly be mentioned that The George has its own steakhouse section and regular steak nights). The park – and pub – is an easy five-minute drive from the M5, making it a peachy place to use as a base for exploring Gloucestershire or as a stopover on the way to or from Cornwall and the southwest, and close to countryside walks passing along the river to snap otters, kingfishers, swans and other wildfowl on the smartphone. There's easy access to the A38 to get to other Gloucestershire highlights, like 16 miles of coarse fishing on the Gloucester to Sharpness Canal within 10 minutes' drive and the Forest of Dean 50 minutes away. And it should certainly also be mentioned that The George has a large beer garden, with plenty of benches for riverside relaxing and looking for those otters and swans… The amenities are roomy and well-maintained and include a family-friendly shower block with easy access, a loo and a shower accessible to disabled guests, washing-up facilities in the main shower block, a washing machine and a children's playground.

Electric grass pitch (XL)

Liked Lovely intimate camp site. We had an enormous, level pitch with nice tall hedges to separate the other pitches. Well appointed toilet block, which was very clean. The pub served fantastic food. We both really enjoyed staying there.

Disliked The only thing which stopped our score being a 10/10 was the road noise.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Good friendly welcome on arrival. Good pitch as we were only staying one night. Given map marking everything available.
The food at The George was excellent as someone who needs gluten free there was a full menu available not something you find very often. All facilities were very clean.

Disliked I think if it had been busy the toilets might be an issue you would have to use the ones in the shower block too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely pitches, showers and staff. The Pub is excellent and the River Cam is clean and unspoilt.

Disliked The kingfishers were a bit elusive and there was too much to see so we'll have to come back.

Electric grass pitch (XL)

Liked Just returned from a 4 night stay at Riverside. We had an xl grass pitch which was very spacious and very private. Had a lovely welcome from the warden. Lovely atmosphere and food in the George pub which we could take our dog in which was a big bonus to us. Lovely walks through the woods. Showers were spotless clean and very hot. Will definitely return and would have rated a 10 apart from a couple of niggles.

Disliked On arrival the site looked like it needed a little TLC (grass and hedges) but this was thoroughly done on day 3 of our stay and looked much better so well done to the gardeners they did a lovely job. Also we had to go and buy bottled water as the water had a very strange taste but I didn’t report this to the warden so I didn’t really give them a chance to rectify the problem as I’m not one to complain but none of this would stop me from returning as it is a lovely place to stay 😊.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

Just to clarify due to us being such a busy site we are limited to when the grass and hedges can be cut if most pitches are being used. It’s all maintained every week when possible. Regarding the water, all our taps on pitches are safe drinking water, taste of water varies across the country so could have been that. This will be checked to be sure.

To other customers please inform the warden of any issues that occur onsite. This is really important to make sure everyone has a pleasant stay.

Local attractions

Use this place as a base to get to the best of Gloucestershire and its surrounds, whether you want countryside or city days in the likes of Bristol, Cheltenham and Bath. (It's a safe bet you'd like a day at Cheltenham Racecourse, 40 minutes' drive away, too.) WWT Slimbridge (10 minutes) gives juicy chances to see resident ducks, swans and thousands of migratory birds alongside stacks of events like otter feeds, guided walks and canoe safaris. If it's more greenery you're after, several excellent options are an easy drive away: the 22-acre village green at Frampton on Severn (five minutes), said to be the longest in England, within a five-mile drive; scenic strolls along the river Severn, within four miles; the National Trust's Westbury Court Gardens, (40 minutes), and Stroud's hidden valley Painswick Rococo Garden (half an hour); be sure to see the snowdrops if you're there in season. Also recommended by the team are Gloucester Docks and the National Waterways Museum (25 minutes); Woodchester Mansion Trust (20 minutes), an odd and unfinished country house surrounded by National Trust parkland, and 11th-century Berkeley Castle (10 minutes), thought to be the place where poor old Edward II saw his last day.
