  • Well-maintained and peaceful park set alongside the River Cam
  • A 10-minute drive from the edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape
  • Pub site with beer garden; many country walks nearby
Hurrah, a pub site, and what a nicely named – and nicely placed – one too. Picture this: Riverside Caravan Park at The George is a peaceful, popular and very friendly park set along the wildlife haven of Gloucestershire's River Cam, with its own old-style family inn serving up home-cooked local food and traditional ales and ciders at reasonable prices (it should also certainly be mentioned that The George has its own steakhouse section and regular steak nights). The park – and pub – is an easy five-minute drive from the M5, making it a peachy place to use as a base for exploring Gloucestershire or as a stopover on the way to or from Cornwall and the southwest, and close to countryside walks passing along the river to snap otters, kingfishers, swans and other wildfowl on the smartphone. There's easy access to the A38 to get to other Gloucestershire highlights, like 16 miles of coarse fishing on the Gloucester to Sharpness Canal within 10 minutes' drive and the Forest of Dean 50 minutes away. And it should certainly also be mentioned that The George has a large beer garden, with plenty of benches for riverside relaxing and looking for those otters and swans… The amenities are roomy and well-maintained and include a family-friendly shower block with easy access, a loo and a shower accessible to disabled guests, washing-up facilities in the main shower block, a washing machine and a children's playground.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (no awning)

Liked Lovely quiet site. We went out of season, but met all our needs. Clean and warm shower & toilet facilities.
Liked the fact we had a key card to access these as the site is on the pubs land, and directly along a public walkway.
Woke hearing nature's birdsong. Extra nice touch to have a running stream alongside the site. Had a good park for the kids. We only stayed one night, so didn't use it.
Pub was very welcoming and sold delicious proper pub grub! Thanks for having us!

Disliked Nothing!
Phone signal was slightly poor, but noticed you can access our WiFi in the pub. Didn't bother us.

Liked Behind the pub by the river, great shower room with toilet and basin and heated! Warden came straight out and was very helpful and friendly.

Disliked Little bit of road noise but I could not hear it in my camper

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (no awning)

Liked Great service from the lady running the site. She called us to find out what time we might arrive - this booking was a damp Sunday in Feb!
It was dark when we arrived so couldn’t see much of the site. But it’s well lit and finding our pitch was easy. Large pitch. Shower block was spacious and clean.
There is a pub next door but unfortunately the night we were there they weren’t serving food. They do come recommended I’m told.
For a quick overnight stop this site fitted the bill. Close to the M5 but quiet and leafy.

Disliked Showers and bathrooms are great but a chair or stool to put your things on would be useful

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (no awning)

Liked Very friendly host and a lovely welcome, really nice hot showers and bathroom facilities. Loved the privacy hedges separating the pitches. Would be extra special in the summer months.

Disliked The pub food wasn’t as great as we had expected but that is absolutely no reflection on the site at all, we would just choose to cook ourselves onsite on future visits. All super on site thank you 🙏🏼

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (no awning)

Liked Fine for my 7m motorhome! Easy access and EHU close-by so no issues! I was only there for one night in order to attend a wake at The George nextdoor and so for me it was perfect. Warden Georgia was friendly and welcoming and the site was obviously well kept.

Disliked My only gripe was the cost? We all accept that energy costs remain high but out of season in February £30 is a bit steep, especially when the site was almost empty!!

Local attractions

Use this place as a base to get to the best of Gloucestershire and its surrounds, whether you want countryside or city days in the likes of Bristol, Cheltenham and Bath. (It's a safe bet you'd like a day at Cheltenham Racecourse, 40 minutes' drive away, too.) WWT Slimbridge (10 minutes) gives juicy chances to see resident ducks, swans and thousands of migratory birds alongside stacks of events like otter feeds, guided walks and canoe safaris. If it's more greenery you're after, several excellent options are an easy drive away: the 22-acre village green at Frampton on Severn (five minutes), said to be the longest in England, within a five-mile drive; scenic strolls along the river Severn, within four miles; the National Trust's Westbury Court Gardens, (40 minutes), and Stroud's hidden valley Painswick Rococo Garden (half an hour); be sure to see the snowdrops if you're there in season. Also recommended by the team are Gloucester Docks and the National Waterways Museum (25 minutes); Woodchester Mansion Trust (20 minutes), an odd and unfinished country house surrounded by National Trust parkland, and 11th-century Berkeley Castle (10 minutes), thought to be the place where poor old Edward II saw his last day.
