What customers say

Smith Hall Meadow offers a comfortable and well-equipped camping experience in a beautiful countryside setting. Yurts are described as cosy, warm, and private, with convenient en-suite bathrooms and kitchen facilities. The site is praised for its cleanliness, provided equipment, and rural atmosphere. Owners are noted as friendly and helpful, going the extra mile to ensure guest comfort. While Wi-Fi can be patchy, the location serves as a good base for local activities and visiting nearby attractions. The site is booked so that tents pitched together are for one party only, preventing sharing of facilities. Minor points for improvement include clearer arrival instructions.

Kestrel yurt

Liked This place is amazing!!! Everything you need for a simple but extremely comfortable camping trip.. a bottle of baileys by the fire pit at night! Perfect!!!
The kestrel yurt was very welcoming and cozy and with your own privacy with bathroom and kitchen made it that much better!

Disliked Would love this to be open in the winter months and would like to be able to book next year but can’t find the option too..

Kestrel yurt

Liked Rural atmosphere in the meadow, well equipped and cozy yurt that was nicely furnished and great to have a private bathroom and cooking facilities including fridge. Lovely and warm with the burner lit. The decking area was also a plus. Friendly welcome from owners and various animals.

Disliked Nothing to dislike. Shame we didn’t have time to try out the local pub! Wi-Fi was available but a bit patchy.

Kestrel yurt

Liked We stayed for 2 days in the Kestral Yurt and I can’t fault it. Had everything you would need (cooking equipment, cutlery, plates, bedding, extra blankets). We were there during the recent storm and the yurt was amazing, especially with the log burner! The owners came on both days to make sure everything was ok, which was lovely. Added bonus to have your own shower/toilet cubicle.

Local attractions

This is a nifty base for those looking to pick up one of the nearby Peak District's traffic-free trails. Head to Ashbourne (10 minutes' drive) to embark on the Tissington Trail or to Bakewell (30 minutes) for the equally rewarding Monsal Trail. If opting for the latter, you'll want to make sure you have bike lights or a torch – it makes venturing through the old railway tunnels much easier. If you’re more drawn to watersports, hotfoot it down to Carsington Water (10 minutes), where qualified instructors are on hand to guide you through the ins and outs of sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding or kayaking. Fishing fans aren't left out either: this stonkingly well-stocked lake is inhabited by boatloads of brown and rainbow trout. After a spot of upstairs-downstairs intrigue? The halls and corridors of Chatsworth House (35 minutes) are lined with Old Masters, porcelain and many other fine things. If accompanied by kids who'd rather be running around outside, take them down to the estate's working farmyard, where they can muck in with the milking and handle a host of cuddly critters.
