Stunning surroundings

  • Secluded, peaceful site with stunning Peak District views
  • A 15-minute drive from Buxton and Bakewell
  • Direct access to High Peak and Tissington trails for walks/bike rides
Partial to a Peak District view? Perhaps unsurprisingly, Peak View Newhaven Lodge Farm could well be the place for you – this small, secluded Derbyshire touring site is surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the national park, with something pretty to look at whichever way you turn. The outlook may shout ‘middle of nowhere’, but the site’s actually very easily accessible – getting in and out is fairly straightforward, as there’s a well-maintained limestone track leading to the pitches from the A515. Pubs, cafés and shops (including a fine farm shop) are five minutes’ drive away in the villages of Hartington and Monyash, and it’s a 15-minute drive to the bigger towns of Bakewell and Buxton. Planning to leave the car in situ and head out on foot or bikes? A fine plan, for it’s just a short amble across the neighbouring field to pick up the High Peak and Tissington trails; hire bikes half a mile away if you’re not able to bring your own wheels along. Also nearby are Lathkill and Wolfscote Dales, along with Ecton Hill for folk seeking a bit more of a challenge. Reckon those views would be a fine backdrop for an alfresco dinner? Spot on – the site welcomes barbecues. There’s no electricity here, but mains water is supplied and there’s a chemical disposal facility.

What customers say

This peaceful, back-to-basics campsite is praised for its stunning panoramic views and convenient location, offering direct access to the Tissington and High Peak Trails for walking and cycling. Campers appreciate the friendly, helpful owner and the spacious, well-maintained field. While basic facilities are provided (water and chemical disposal), visitors note the absence of toilets and showers. Some mention the sloping ground and the potential for wind. Access to the site can be tricky to find, and mobile signal can be intermittent.

Liked Lots of space and stunning views. Just a short walk down the hill and you are on the Tissington trail and it is just a few metres from the junction with the high peak trail. Really good that you can arrive and leave at any time during the day as it means you can get the most out of an overnight stop.
The owner was really friendly, and went out of their way to fetch me a phone charge lead from their house when mine wouldn’t work. I will definitely be visiting again.

Disliked Just be aware that the sat nav takes you to the farmhouse, not the entrance to the campsite. There is a CL site across from the farmhouse, that is not the right place. You have to keep travelling north from the house and the entrance is a few hundred metres further on. It’s quite a fast and busy road which can be a bit tricky as the sign is only small.

Along with the trails just by the site, you might also like to seek out the Manifold Trail (10 minutes’ drive), or skip across the stepping stones at Dovedale (15 minutes). A bit closer to home is Gib Hill Barrow – a half-hour hike from the site takes you up to the ancient Arbor Low stone circle. Ladybower Reservoir (40 minutes) is a good place to aim for if you fancy strolling or cycling by water. If you’d rather get in/on the water, get down to Carsington Water (25 minutes) for kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing and windsurfing – the watersports centre here has kit for hire and taster sessions where you can pick up the necessary techniques.
