  • Pop-up wild camping in Derbyshire’s lovely Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute walk into Castleton; Chatsworth House half an hour’s drive
  • Grass pitches with pubs and cafés nearby, plus direct access to walks
Looking for a peaceful rural stay amid spectacular Peak District countryside views? You could have hit the jackpot at Treaks Pringle Camping, a pop-up site with a true wild-camping vibe on the very outskirts of Castleton, one of the prettiest and most popular villages in the national park. This peaceful site is surrounded by fields and has gorgeous views whichever way you turn. From the camping fields, you can spot dramatic Winnats Pass, and there are myriad attractions like the Blue John Cavern (10 minutes’ drive) and Peveril Castle (five minutes) close by. Any long-distance walkers looking for an overnight stop? Treaks Pringle Camping is close to Edale (10 minutes) and the start of the Pennine Way. Basic facilities on site stretch to a washing-up area and a toilet block, so you’ll need to bring everything with you, including torches for finding your way around after dark. Don’t forget the barbecue if you fancy cooking alfresco, but there are also pubs and cafés aplenty in Castleton. The main road through Castleton is a 10-minute walk away so you don’t need to bother with the car. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome, but please keep them on leads at all times – and do note that the pitches here are on a slight slope.

What customers say

This campsite boasts a stunning location with breathtaking views, ideal for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff, cleanliness of facilities, and convenient walking distance to Castleton. While some note the site's sloped terrain, it is generally manageable. Options like fire pit hire are appreciated. Occasional feedback mentions the site can be busy, and a lack of showers is noted, though this is often expected at such a well-located, basic campsite.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (sloping)

Liked Clean facilities, great location, farm animals on site, friendly people

Disliked Sloppiness and you had to press the cistern down in the toilet to flush.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (sloping)

Liked A nice campsite with stunning views and very friendly staff. The option to rent a fire pit was a great addition too. The quiet time after 10pm was well enforced and observed by all. Although the site has a slope it is stated on the booking page, so not a surprise on arrival, and also completely manageable. Just a short walk into the village of Castleton, which has plenty of pubs, and a few shops and cafes. If you like walking, this is a great location.

Disliked The site was pretty busy, and there was a constant queue for the toilet and washing facilities, which are limited, but spotlessly clean. An issue did arise with flushing, but was quickly rectified once the staff were informed.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (sloping)

Liked Loved this place, we had an amazing time. The Site owners were on site until late and so friendly and helpful. Snacks and cold drinks were available to buy from their cabin at the entrance. Fire pit rental was reasonable with logs and kindling included, lasted us all night. Toilets were clean and always stocked with toilet roll. Not too busy, and really quiet at night. Easy access to the village which is only a 10-15 minute walk away, main road is well lit. Lovely to see all the paragliders coming over the hill & landing in the field next door too. Will definitely return in the near future.

Disliked Was on a slight slope, but not much of an issue.
