What customers say

This basic campsite offers a peaceful and spacious environment, praised for its flat pitches and proximity to Matlock town and Matlock Farm Park. Guests appreciated the friendly and helpful staff, clean portaloos with toilet paper, and a drinking water tap. The site's quietness and ample space for activities were highlighted. Some visitors noted the lack of showers and washing-up facilities, and occasional issues with portaloos. Plans for improved facilities have been mentioned by the manager.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Basic campsite consists of portaloos and a tap for clean water. Travelled with my 5 year old son on his first camping experience and he loved every minute. The big open field gave us plenty of space for playing games and it wasn’t crowded. It is 2 mins away from the farm park which I would highly recommend and camping gets you a 20% discount on entry. Short drive into Matlock which is beautiful place but parking is horrendous but can’t hold that against the campsite. will definitely consider here again next year

Disliked Amenities were very basic but it is a field on a working farm so didn’t expect sky tv and cocktails. The fresh water taps are straight onto the field which means it can get quite muddy after after a few people have used them I think it would benefit from having a bit of a drain away installed as people tend to go and brush their teeth there with the tap running

Local attractions

The extensive estate at Chatsworth (20 minutes’ drive) has lots to do, so you can easily make a day of it, splitting your hours between house tours, garden walks and time spent at the adventure playground and farmyard. Something similar could be said of Gulliver’s Kingdom (15 minutes), which has enough rides, playgrounds and themed areas to keep you going all day long. If you’d rather stick to natural attractions, there are plenty of those in the Peak District National Park – perhaps you’d like to see some of the scenery on a bike ride along the traffic-free Tissington Trail from Ashbourne or while jumping across the Dovedale stepping stones (both 35 minutes). Brave souls may like to see the scenery from above on a cable car ride at Heights of Abraham (15 minutes), which has a hilltop park with caverns to explore. Back down at ground level, you can instead ride on historic vehicles at Crich Tramway Village (15 minutes).
