  • Dog-friendly site on a working farm in the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Bakewell and 20 minutes from Chatsworth House
  • Walks direct from the pitches and a welcoming pub 10 minutes’ stroll
Cows and sheep for neighbours, gorgeous walks from the pitches and the likes of Bakewell (home of delicious almond-flavoured tarts) and Chatsworth House within 20 minutes’ drive… who could turn down a Peak District National Park getaway at Brosterfield Farm Caravan Park? What a stunning and peaceful place it is, too: the camping meadow is surrounded by fields and operates as a quiet site, which means no loud noise or music allowed, please, as the owners want you to relax and get back to nature. Spotless facilities include modern showers, toilets, a pot-washing area and a chemical disposal point. In addition, there are a couple of electric-car charging points as well as recycling facilities in the corner of the camping field. Barbecues are allowed (bring your own from home), and you can stock up on bits for the grill at the supermarket in Bakewell. Your canine chums (up to two per pitch) are also welcome, and luckily, the local pub is dog-friendly (both inside and out) with an excellent restaurant, open fires and good ales. It’s only 10 minutes’ walk away in the pretty village of Foolow, which has a duck pond and is the start of many Peak District walks and mountain-biking trails.

What customers say

This is a new, well-maintained campsite in a beautiful Peak District location. Guests praise the spacious, clean facilities, particularly the hot showers, and the peaceful atmosphere. The site is conveniently located within walking distance of a local pub and offers excellent access to walking routes. The secure gated entry and friendly staff are also frequently highlighted. Minor issues mentioned include limited toilet cubicle space during peak times and occasional Wi-Fi inconsistency.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Good views, very quiet site and helfpul owners and warden (thank you!) Good facilities which are very clean.

Disliked In the wet, the field is a quagmire and we needed towing out. Just needs a bit of gravel or hardcore to provide an easy driveway through the field. Even the entrance is a quagmire. Appreciate the site is new but this is very basic and advance warning of very muddy conditions would have been appreciated. Harcore pitches would be an option too that could be charegd for at a premium (with EHU too).

From the manager: thank you for your review.

We have had rain all but one day for January and 98% of the site is NOT a quagmire. To date you are the only person to do need help, so this denotes it is not a quagmire!

The areas that we do not wish you to go we have cordoned off.

It is January and we are a grass pitch site. The entrance is a little muddy but very passable and we are operating the bottom gate for exits.

Hopefully would be better in the summer when all problems are resolved

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Freedom of space available to use.

Disliked As it was quiet there was lots of space but if it was busy there would not be room in the shower block, the toilets had no space to sit down and not bang your knees on the back of the door and the entrance needs better signage for entrance and exit. The roof was leaking on the shower room and there was no washing up outside as the water was not working.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for kind review.

Thank you for letting me know about the leak, Aaron our on site manager that is around all the time would have been very happy for you to let him know and he would have fixed that immediately.

Only one of the sinks was working after the extreme freezing temperatures that burst the water pipes, but we did have one sink work, so I am sorry you missed that.

We do have seats on some of the showers for sitting but I will look to get some more.

It is useful to have feedback which we can move forward on.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nice big field, toilets and showers were good.

Disliked No hot or cold running water at the washing up station.Bins overflowing.
Considering it is described as a quiet, peaceful site and the owners request that no music is to be played we had to listen to a loud generator powering the caravan on the pitch next to us.Not my idea of a relaxing peaceful break.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

We do not allow generators and have not had one on the site since we opened.

As you can see from our many reviews we are and do run a quiet site.

However, out of necessity, we did allow the camper in question to run one for a short while. He had returned later than expected after attending to a personal situation to find his leisure batteries failed to work and had to use the generator before going to bed and a short while in the morning, this normally would not have been allowed, so please do accept my sincere apologies.

Local attractions

Hikers can soon be out on the Monsal Trail (10 minutes’ drive), which offers spectacular views over Monsal Dale and the viaduct at Monsal Head. Kids will have fun crossing the stepping stones at Chee Dale (20 minutes), where you can all follow the River Wye through its limestone gorge. Alternatively, families may prefer to spend the day on cable-car rides at the Heights of Abraham (35 minutes), take vintage vehicle jaunts from Crich Tramway Village or enjoy dinosaur trails and adventure golf at Gulliver’s Kingdom (both 40 minutes). Peak District National Park culture vultures among you? As well as a farmyard where kids can meet the animals, stately Chatsworth House (20 minutes) is set in Capability Brown-designed parkland and has a fantastic art collection, while largely 12th-century Haddon Hall (25 minutes) is open for tours of its vaulted banqueting hall and formal Elizabethan gardens. The infamous ‘plague village’ of Eyam (five minutes’ drive) is packed with pretty stone cottages and cute tearooms, and there’s a craft centre at the Jacobean-era Eyam Hall. A former spa town, Buxton (25 minutes) has a lively cultural scene and an acclaimed opera house; book ahead for tickets.
