  • Eco-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive to the Peak District National Park
  • Derwent Valley Mills and Carsington Water both 20 minutes’ drive
  • Pitches in a wildflower meadow; dog-friendly walks from the site
Set in a wildflower meadow surrounded by woodland, Langley Wilding Campsite is a simple, eco-friendly getaway 15 minutes’ drive from Derby and roughly the same distance from the spectacular Peak District National Park. Here you can enjoy peaceful surroundings, escape the bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. The site forms part of the Meynell Langley Wilding Estate, a small family-run property with a focus on biodiversity and nature conservation. The land is a tapestry of habitats including woodlands, meadows, ponds, streams, hedgerows and pasture; there are footpaths (your dogs will love it here) and a community orchard to explore (you are welcome to harvest the seasonal bounty of the latter too). The list of facilities is short – namely a timber-framed shower block with reliable hot water, composting loos and washing-up sinks – so you’ll need to bring torches for moving around after dark and other basics too. However, a stay at Langley Wilding Campsite is all about life’s simple pleasures: having space to move around, breathing fresh air and waking up to birdsong. A stay here gives you the chance to appreciate the small things that matter, like watching wildlife or spectacular sunsets from the secluded camping meadow.

What customers say

This is a highly recommended, peaceful, and eco-friendly campsite, praised for its generous, private pitches mown into wildflower meadows and adjacent woodland. Facilities, including composting toilets and showers, are consistently described as clean and well-maintained, with hot water available. The car-free field makes it ideal for families, allowing children to roam freely. Guests appreciate the quiet atmosphere, proximity to the Peak District, and helpful owners. A minor issue with cold showers in the morning was reported, with the manager stating they are working to resolve it. Some noted a nearby road, though this was considered a minor preference.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Beautiful campsite, lovely and quiet whilst we stayed, only two other tents both nights we stayed. Really liked that the pitches were mown into the long grass which helped with making it feel even more private. Facilities were also very clean. The local pub does exellent food, with great vegan options - well worth the walk.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful and peaceful basic campsite with very admirable eco credentials and ethos. Having the pitches marked out by mowing the meadow was a great touch and gave a sense of privacy and being in nature. A great find and the perfect summer campsite.
