What a gorgeous and cosy rural retreat – a roomy and luxuriously appointed wooden lodge just made for two. If you’re a loved-up couple searching for some rural downtime, this is a lovely spot, with gorgeous countryside views and pole position when it comes to exploring the glorious Peak District National Park.
Set on a busy working smallholding near Chesterfield in Derbyshire, this stylish lodge is kitted out with a handmade wooden bed (and a super-comfy mattress) in the cosy double bedroom, and a bathroom with a proper-size corner shower.
The kitchen has a full-size oven plus everything you need to cook up a feast (source foodie treats in Chesterfield, five minutes’ drive), and there’s a dining table in the open-plan living space, where you can also kick back on the sofa and watch TV or plan adventures for the days ahead.
Outside the private garden is sheltered by a picket fence. On warm and sunny days, linger over alfresco dining while admiring the rural views – and after dark on clear nights, cuddle up by the firepit and gaze up at the starry sky.

Local attractions
Lively Chesterfield (five minutes’ drive) rewards a visit for its historic heart, with shops and cafés tucked into half-timbered townhouses in The Shambles, and a sprawling open-air market on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Gothic-era St Mary and All Saints church has a curiously twisted spire that's become a much-loved local landmark – climb to the top for views over the town’s rooftops.
Other local landmarks include hilltop Bolsover Castle (10 minutes), with its intricate fairytale design and lovely gardens. National Trust-owned Hardwick House (15 minutes) is one of the finest Tudor mansions in the country, with landscaped gardens and elaborate interiors to tour, while Chatsworth House (half an hour) deserves a day exploring its vast estates and intricate apartments.
And of course the Peak District National Park (20 minutes) beckons, with its many hiking and cycling routes covering steep valleys and exposed moorland. Riverside Bakewell (half an hour), Edale (55 minutes, and the official start of the Pennine Way) and the plague village of Eyam (half an hour) are just a few of its many pretty villages with cosy pubs for leisurely lunches.
