Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The location (walking/ cycling routes/ pubs close by) and the staff were lovely, really friendly and knowledgeable. The area that was open for pitches for our stay were great and everything was very tidy.

Disliked: The site wasn't busy so this didn't affect us on this visit but, there are only 2 showers as far as I could tell so may be an issue for some in peak times.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Quiet little farm campsite off the beaten track with stunning views in every direction. It was nice to wake up to the sounds of cows, sheep & birds. Lovely owners. Facilities always clean. Pitch up where you want, ground fairly flat & soft (easy to get the tent pegs in!!) Unlimited pitch size.

Disliked: Only two toilets & 2 showers, so having to queue in the rain wasn't pleasant. Disrespectful neighbours in the tent next to us. Noisy till way after 11pm & left all their rubbish when they left (we cleaned up after them 😕) Not the sites fault, just annoyed me!!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The space and the wonderful views! It was great to be able to pitch wherever we liked and have room to ourselves - the field was enormous. My young son had loads of space to kick a ball, play tennis and throw aeroplanes without getting in anyone’s way!

Disliked: The toilets (2 for everyone) and showers (2 also) weren’t in great condition. But they were perfectly fine. We’ve booked to go camping here again later in the summer, so it defo didn’t put us off!

From the manager: Hi thankyou for your review we are pleased you enjoyed your stay 😊 we do normally have extra toliots in the second field but we was let down last minute and sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and for toliots and showers not in great condition they have not long ago had a revamp and one shower still in process of work being done to it :) and always kepted to clean standards

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very easy to get to, there was lots of flexibility as to where to pitch up and we had lots of space from our “neighbours”. There were plenty of portaloos dotted around in addition to the 2 permanent ones, always kept clean. There are 2 decent showers and the 10 minutes of hot water for the £1 was plenty.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We stayed in the second field of the campsite and enjoyed the lovely views of the peaks. The campsite was quiet, most of the time the only noise you could hear was the cows mooing. It made a great base for some lovely walks into the peaks. The campsite is simple with wash facilities for pots if needed, unisex toilets that were clean and showers. There are more portapotties dotted around the campsite so that you don’t always have to walk to the main toilet block.

Local attractions

The fishing’s fantastic hereabouts – ask the owners where to roam with your rod – as are all the subterranean spots for exploring. Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park is well worth a wander, while the Pavilion Gardens are tip-top for botanical buffs (both 15 minutes' drive). Holidaying with pint-sized travellers? Matlock Bath (25 minutes) is a brill option for family-filled days out at the amusement centres or on the kids’ rides at Gulliver's Kingdom, and if anyone in the clan has a sweet tooth, making a beeline for Bakewell (15 minutes) to try the famed tart (or is it a pudding…? either way, it’s delicious) is a must. From here, it’s another 15 minutes to Chatsworth House, one of the most well-known country homes in England because of its jaw-droppingly huge 1600s facade and massive collections of fancy paintings, Old Master drawings and neoclassical sculptures.
