What customers say
This is a basic, peaceful farm campsite offering stunning rural views and a chance to observe animals. Pitches are generally spacious and well-maintained, with electric hook-ups and water points available on many. While praised for its tranquil atmosphere and friendly staff, the facilities are consistently described as very basic and in need of updating by many visitors. Limited toilet and shower provisions, and occasional issues with cleanliness or hot water for washing up, are recurring points of feedback. The access track can also be bumpy.

Liked The area is great for walks and having farm land is gives a sense of fresh air and the Peak district direct routes to Monyash village and Buxton town
Disliked Cockrels and chickens crowing all night and had no sleep,, also another aroma that wouldnt go away from the waste bins over flowing
Would stay again but at the top of the site so that the sounds cant be heard from 4am

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
Unfortunately, if you’re giving the site 3/10 because you could hear the chickens and cockerels, and because of an overflowing waste bin, it’s quite clear that Longfield Campsite simply isn’t the right site for you.
The chickens and cockerels are part of the rural surroundings and, as with any countryside site, we cannot guarantee complete silence—particularly from animals that don’t exactly work to a timetable!
As for the bins, we have already acknowledged that this is something we are looking at improving. Unfortunately, some campers use the bins for far more than normal household waste, including broken equipment and large boxes, which quickly fills them up.
You say you would stay again but would choose the top of the site to avoid the noise. Given your 3/10 rating, I’d suggest it’s probably best that you don’t bother booking again and choose a campsite more suited to what you’re looking for.
We’re a small, rural campsite—not a luxury, silent retreat—and we make no apologies for the countryside atmosphere that comes with it
Convenient for my weekend plans
Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Low fuss get on with it type site with Alpaca and Emu grazing in adjacent fields
Disliked Bins overflowing with rubbish spilling on to the floor. Cats climbing into my tent and begging whilst preparing food.
Neighbours farm having a large uncontrolled fire blowing ash and smoke over camping kit whilst government issued fire alerts. Fire brigade attended but fire not extinguished

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
We are sorry that the overflowing bins affected your stay. We are currently looking into providing larger bins and ways of managing campers’ waste more effectively. Unfortunately, the bins are regularly used for much more than normal household camping waste, with broken equipment, boxes and other bulky items being left in them. This quickly fills the available space and is something we are increasingly having to deal with. Unfortunately, a lack of consideration from some campers makes this particularly difficult to manage.
Regarding the cats, I completely agree that cats climbing into tents and begging while food is being prepared is unacceptable. Unfortunately, they are not our cats, and we actively discourage campers from engaging with or feeding them. However, some campers enjoy having the cats around and actively encourage them, which makes it extremely difficult to keep them away from the camping areas. We will continue to discourage this behaviour where we can.
Regarding the fire at the neighbouring farm, this was a controlled fire and was attended by the fire brigade. Unfortunately, we cannot be held responsible for activities taking place on neighbouring land. While we appreciate that smoke and ash blowing across your camping equipment was unpleasant, the fire was outside our control and was dealt with by the appropriate authorities.
We do take genuine feedback seriously and are continually looking at ways to improve the site. However, there are certain things outside our control, and we also rely on campers showing a reasonable level of respect and consideration for the site and other guests

Liked A great location, very central to so many beautiful spots at a great price, you really can't argue! The facilities are basic which the cost reflects, but lovely flat field, electric hook ups and beautiful surroundings, really pleased to have found this place and everything we needed.

We’re really pleased you enjoyed the location and found Longfield a great base for exploring the surrounding area. We pride ourselves on keeping things simple and affordable, so it’s great to hear you appreciated the flat pitches, electric hook-ups and beautiful surroundings.
It’s fantastic to hear you had everything you needed and were pleased to have found us. We’d love to welcome you back again in the future! ⛺️😊

Electric grass pitch
Liked The tap next to the hook up for each pitch, the farm cats were friendly and came for cuddles, large grass pitch, located between bakewell and Burton and near loads of brilliant days out.
Disliked No hot water to wash up
Cockerells were no stop all day and night
Bins overflowing and not emptied

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
There is an outside washing-up sink with running cold water, and there is also hot water available inside the toilet block. Guests simply need to fill a bowl with hot water inside and take it outside to use at the washing-up sink.
As for the cockerels, we are a rural campsite and they are unfortunately part and parcel of the countryside. They don’t operate to campsite hours and can be heard throughout the day and night.
Regarding the bins, we appreciate that overflowing bins are unpleasant and we are looking at ways to manage the waste more effectively. Unfortunately, some campers use the bins for large amounts of rubbish, including boxes and broken equipment, which means they fill much quicker than they should.
We’re a small, basic rural campsite offering affordable pitches, and we’re sorry the experience didn’t meet your expectations.

Okay for access to all the area has to offer, but very basic.
Electric grass pitch
Liked Location, toilet and shower (very basic)
Disliked No organisation of where people pitched, some very close to each other which can lead to noise disturbance and also be a fire hazard.
Toilet and shower a useful addition but no way of cleaning after use left shower tray covered in grass and leaves.
I appreciate this sit is run as part of a charitable trust but some closer attraction to the pitching of Tents and cleaning of facilities would I believe encourage more repeat visits.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
Firstly, just to correct one point — we are not a charitable trust. I’m not sure where that information has come from, but it is completely incorrect.
We do have numbered pitches, and guests are expected to use their allocated pitch sensibly and considerately. We are a small campsite, and it simply isn’t practical or financially viable to have a warden walking around the site monitoring where every person puts their tent or how they behave.
We provide the pitches and the facilities; what we cannot provide is common sense.
If guests choose to pitch too close to others, make excessive noise or ignore basic consideration for their neighbours, that is unfortunately down to the individuals involved. We cannot be expected to supervise adults throughout their stay.
The same applies to the toilet and shower facilities. Yes, we provide them and yes, we expect them to be kept clean. But if somebody walks into a shower covered in grass and leaves and then leaves the mess behind, that is a guest responsibility, not a failure of the campsite. We cannot realistically clean the shower after every single person uses it.
We are always happy to take genuine constructive criticism on board and improve things where improvements are reasonably possible. However, there also has to be a degree of responsibility from the people staying here.
We are a small, independently run campsite — not a fully staffed holiday park with wardens and cleaners following guests around. We rely on people behaving responsibly, respecting other campers and leaving shared facilities as they would expect to find them.
We’re sorry that your experience wasn’t what you hoped for, but some of the issues raised are ultimately caused by the behaviour and lack of consideration of individual guests, rather than the lack of facilities or organisation on our part.
We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback and will continue to do what we reasonably can to make the site enjoyable for everyone
