Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked: Lovely little place. Exceeded my expectations. The facilities are great, toilets and showers were always clean. I guess I expected ‘farm like facilities (compost toilets, not so warm showers ect) but this place has a great shower block, somewhere clean and warm to wash your pots.
Coffee machine and vending machine, little shop and even homemade pizzas on site. The environment was perfect. As a first time solo female traveller I was a little apprehensive about my stay but everyone was friendly and welcoming.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch (family)

Liked: The location = stunning
The facilities = clean, high quality
The peace and quiet
The friendly lady running the place
Loads of space
Pizza!
Bins, chemical toilet waste disposal, drinking water, showers, vending machines, freezer for ice packs.

Disliked: No phone signal, which for me is fine as I liked the peace and quiet, but for others it may be an issue. There is WiFi in the shower and toilet blocks and reception.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked: The site was well maintained. The toilets and showers were very clean and all in a large barn so felt warm. The washing up area was also in the barn, so well out of the weather. Pizza available to order for supper and breakfast in morning. 20p for 2 min shower but plenty at reception. Lovely staff. Beautiful countryside.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch (family)

Liked: Lots of areas to pitch in, lovely views, great facilities, vending machine for little late night treats, local attraction information. Showers are 20p but the whole area is very clean - worth it! Limestone Walk cuts through the site. Only 20 mins walk to a cute farm shop if the groceries stocked in the site reception aren’t cutting the mustard. Less than an hours walk to Monyash with a pub and a cafe. 20 odd minutes drive into Bakewell or Buxton. Didn’t try the pizzas or breakfast baps but saw plenty of people picking them up so they must be ok! Fire pit for hire at £5 - logs are £10 a bag, kindling £6.

Disliked: It’s really lovely here, and it feels churlish to mention, because they obviously have to make money to stay open (and it’s cost me and my dog £12 a night so an absolute bargain), however, the logs and kindling are about half the price in the Buxton Aldi so if you are indulging, on a very tight budget, hire the pit, but pick some up on the way through and save yourself a good tenner! Finally, we saw plenty of families enjoying their time here but it isn’t super exciting for little ones (I didn’t see any kiddie park for instance) so pack entertainment if you have rambunctious ones!

Local attractions

Those of you who want to glide past the sloping Peak District countryside can get started on the Tissington Trail (10 minutes’ drive). The old railway track is suited to wheels or walking boats, and the historic setting will get you ready for more historical sites… Those include Chatsworth House (20 minutes) and its peaceful grounds, excellent for a picnic and a walk, and the Nine Ladies stone circle (20 minutes). Legend has it each stone was once a lady punished for dancing on a Sunday. You may soon be dancing yourself - even on a Sunday - after a tour of Buxton (15 minutes) or Bakewell (15 minutes). Both characterful Peak District towns are packed with pubs, restaurants and cafés, and of course, in Bakewell, the speciality is Bakewell tarts. Down Chatsworth House way is Chesterfield (35 minutes) too – a destination for all things theatre, golfing and gourmet eats – but further on, it’s easy enough to get to Alton Towers (45 minutes) for a thrills-geared day.
