  • Family-run campsite in a scenic Peak District location
  • Bakewell 15 minutes' drive; Chatsworth 20 minutes
  • Separate adults-only and family-friendly camping fields in White Peak
Burrow down surrounded by typical Derbyshire farmland at Knotlow Farm, a friendly family-run farm campsite in the scenic White Peak area of the Peak District National Park. That’s your first step… and the second? Perhaps renting a bicycle from Parsley Hay, 10 minutes’ drive away, to pedal out over Peak District landscapes, or maybe whisking your four-legged friends off on an outdoor adventure – after all, they’re welcome here too. This rural break is a top choice for a variety of travellers because of its separate adults-only and family-friendly pitching areas. The site has a washing-up area, toilets and hot showers (plus a family bathroom with changing area) too, making it easy to refresh yourself at the end of a long day trekking through the local countryside or exploring some of the area's top tourist attractions… There are many of those nearby, by the way. Set just outside the small hamlet of Flagg, Knotlow Farm is a quarter of an hour's drive from market towns like Bakewell and 20 minutes’ drive from Derbyshire must-sees like Chatsworth House. There is also a small on-site shop to bag essential groceries and sweets, but if you're not in the mood for cooking, grab one of the site’s home-made pizzas every evening. There are breakfasts available every morning and fire baskets can also be hired too (with logs for sale), just in case you're after that extra little bit of evening ambience…

What customers say

This is a well-maintained and spacious campsite in a beautiful, peaceful rural location, ideal for hiking and exploring the Peak District. Visitors frequently praise the exceptionally clean and plentiful facilities, including showers and pot-washing areas. On-site extras such as pizzas, a small shop, and fire pit hire are popular. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some note that certain pitches can be sloping, and there are occasional reports of aircraft noise.

Liked Excellent camp site. Clean facilities, proper toilet and shower block. Lovely sausage, bacon and fried egg cob in the morning. Was relatively quiet because of the weather. Tuck shop and food available in the evening.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch (family)

Liked Site was very peaceful, showers and pot wash sinks were nice and hot/clean, friendly staff.

Disliked There are plenty of spaces that are level but some pitches are on an incline. The toilet block wasn’t too far for us personally but may have been to those at the other end of the site. Wasps were ok for us as adults but may have been a bit of a pain for younger children (probably seasonal but we had a wasp trap which helped distract them!)

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked Lovely hosts, beautiful view, clean toilet/shower block, pizzas were delicious and overall lovely feel to the campsite. Lots of great attractions near and easy to get around the area via car. I think it was a great price overall. I heard people complain about the 20p coins needed for showers but it was no bother at all, and I used 5 20p coins for my showers to get 10mins in the shower which is good. Lots of washing up sinks too and there was even a water tap close to our field which was nice and convenient. Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the site.

Disliked Little bit of a walk to the shower block but it wasn't too bad. In the showers there's no real dry section really so the floor of the whole cubicle can get damp where you're getting dressed after the shower (I personally prefer when showers have a curtain and a small space behind the curtain within the whole cubicle so that remains dry). That said, it was always clean and showers work well, it was nice and quiet around 7am.
Also, a family with a small child did end up pitching by us in the adults only area which was quite annoying but luckily they left before us.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked I received a warm and friendly welcome on arrival. The small shop at reception was a convenient touch. The amenity block was outstanding, exceptionally clean and well lit, and the showers were excellent value at 20p for two minutes. WiFi was available around the reception and amenity areas, though I didn’t need it as EE signal at the pitch was strong.

I was directed to a specific field and invited to choose any available pitch. Arriving early, I had no trouble finding a level spot. While some of the fields are quite hilly, there are flat areas if you take the time to look around. It may be more challenging to find one during peak times.

The location is superb, peaceful and well away from main roads. Waking up to cattle in the neighbouring field was a lovely countryside touch. A public footpath runs directly through the site, so it’s not unusual to see walkers passing between tents. Following the path to the southeast leads to a charming honesty-box farm shop, which also accepts card payments.

Disliked My only minor dislike was the route to the amenity block from the field I was in, which followed the internal road through the campsite. This often meant stepping onto the verge to allow vehicles to pass, sometimes driven a little impatiently. It is more a reflection of fellow campers than the site itself, but a dedicated pedestrian path would have been a welcome addition.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch (family)

Liked My first time here as a regular campervanner. Everything fab. Gorgeous location, lovely walks from site itself or in close driving range. Great for cyclists too. Very clean facilities and all you needed and more. 20p per 2 mins shower is actually a great idea as during busy periods it prevents any queue forming as people more mindful (and helps environment). Water always perfect temperature even after many people had used on busy weekend.
Quiet mid week outside of school holidays but still sufficiently spacious on adult pitches during a busy weekend (had glorious weather). Understand family plot was busier but didn’t hear any complaints myself. Owners very helpful when needed but not intrusive.

Disliked Nothing at all personally. Yes was busy at weekend but no problems at all in terms of need to use facilities. Everyone friendly and respectful of others.
No WiFi at pitches and mobile data slow there, but great to have at all and can sit on benches in car park area outside shower block if really needed to access WiFi connection.

Local attractions

Those of you who want to glide past the sloping Peak District countryside can get started on the Tissington Trail (10 minutes’ drive). The old railway track is suited to wheels or walking boats, and the historic setting will get you ready for more historical sites… Those include Chatsworth House (20 minutes) and its peaceful grounds, excellent for a picnic and a walk, and the Nine Ladies stone circle (20 minutes). Legend has it each stone was once a lady punished for dancing on a Sunday. You may soon be dancing yourself - even on a Sunday - after a tour of Buxton (15 minutes) or Bakewell (15 minutes). Both characterful Peak District towns are packed with pubs, restaurants and cafés, and of course, in Bakewell, the speciality is Bakewell tarts. Down Chatsworth House way is Chesterfield (35 minutes) too – a destination for all things theatre, golfing and gourmet eats – but further on, it’s easy enough to get to Alton Towers (45 minutes) for a thrills-geared day.
