  • Small pop-up site at a quiet farm in the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive to Buxton; half an hour to Alton Towers or Bakewell
  • Fishing pond on site; village shop and tea room two miles away
You know you’ve arrived at a wonderful rural getaway when you find out that your nearest source of supplies is a couple of miles away in a village honesty shop. And that’s just one of the excellent local attractions you’ll be able to check out when you stay at Dragons Back Wild Camping… The shop in question (selling local produce, cakes, ice creams and drinks) is a couple of miles away in Hollinsclough, a sweet little village that’s also home to a lovely tea room in a converted chapel. Other local amenities include a pub and a bigger shop/café 10 minutes’ drive away in Flash, along with all the shops and places to eat 15 minutes away in Buxton. The surroundings here are equally lovely – the farm is located in the Peak District National Park, and the pitches at this small pop-up site have wonderful views out over the Dragon’s Back ridge. You’ll be able to take walks or get out for quiet cycle rides directly from the farm, and there’s also the option of settling in to fish for trout on the farm’s pond (on a catch-and-release basis). As a pop-up site, the amenities are on the simple side, but you’ll have access to modern toilet and shower facilities, and as there’s plenty of space you’ll be able to set up a gazebo, barbecue, outdoor table and whatever else makes you comfortable. Please be aware that the remote, hilly location means phone signal may be patchy.

What customers say

This secluded campsite boasts stunning remote locations, gorgeous views and ample space. Campers appreciated the friendly staff, plentiful animals, and proximity to excellent walking routes. While facilities were described as basic but clean, multiple reviews highlighted a need for more toilets and showers, particularly during busy periods. The site is ideal for those seeking a peaceful, back-to-basics escape with limited phone signal. Recent manager comments indicate improvements, including the addition of extra toilets.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Loved the space for tents, I have teenagers and they don’t want to be in with their mum anymore so worked well. Loved that you pay for pitch not what you put on it.
Location was amazing.
Friendly owners. Cost was perfect for a pop up, no frills campsite.
It was an old school site like they used to be with respect for all from owners to other campers.
Loved the sheep and chicken visits throughout the day. 😊
Showers and toilets were very clean and always toilet roll. I’ve been to bigger more expensive sites where they are a lot worse. There is only 2 toilets but again I don’t mind that and is a small site and didn’t need to Queue at all.
Lots of freedom for children.
Beautiful walks and bikes from the site.
Loved the site and everything about it.

Disliked If I have to put one. It didn’t bother me but shower wasn’t working for one day.
I actually think a fuse went or someone turned it off.
WiFi is bad but again if you are camping in a valley that’s what you get.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked This has to go down as the site with the most beautiful view. Even as you drive down to it, you get a stunning view of the Dragons Back.
Loads of room to pitch and he doesn’t allow too many on so you’re not on-top of each other.
Toilet perfect fine and clean and always loads of loo roll. Shower clean.
You can do the Dragons Back right from the site or a smaller walk over Hollins Hill into Hollinsclough and a trip to the tearoom or honesty shop.
The warden onsite was super lovely and great for advising.
We also had a day at Buxton Raceway which is just a 20 min walk.
Plus there are the hilarious sheep, bleating away to each other all weekend and the chickens roaming around.
Can’t wait to go again next season.

Disliked Literally nothing to dislike.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The site is in a beautiful location and great camp as a base for a walk around the dragon's back. The team on site were very friendly and relaxed about paying the remainder of the fee. We liked the ponies, chickens and very vocal sheep!

Disliked Toilet and shower facilities are a little limited (two porta-loos and a shower-shower when we were there), time your visits well. The site is on a bit of a slope, so snag a flat bit if you can. There is a race track nearby which can be very noisy when race day is happening.

Disliked Had 2 dogs, lots of sheep poo in the camping area, we appreciate it’s a farm but the camping area was affected massively. And we were advised that they were kept separate. Maybe difficult for tents . Had to pick up lots of sheep poo for a clean area for dogs.

Comments noted. Farmer going to dig out his cattle grid this week and lower a gate a bit so hopefully that'll stop the beggars from keep wandering in.

Liked Amazing wild campsite. Friendly owners and guests. The facilities were clean and modern. Offered us so much help to get around Buxton and taxi numbers. Couldn’t have asked for more from the owners. We will definitely be booking again!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Really beautiful site, peaceful and well maintained

The Saturday was fairly full but still felt like lots of space and privacy

Also there's a second loo now! If you're worried about earlier reviews commenting on that. Didn't need to queue, shower nice and hot, people friendly

Nice to see chickens and sheep roaming around, and horses in a field nearby

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked What a great location for a weekend, stunning scenery and walks in abundance. Pitch anywhere in the field was great , used the toilets not the shower and water available alongside wash up . Perfect for dragons back and a walk into Hollinsclough with its honesty shop. We walked into Longnor once over Chrome Hill , lovely coffee shops and strollthrough the country lanes back. Would definitely recommend .

Route directions

Do not enter via Hollinsclough as the road is not fit for vehicles. Instead, take the A53 Leek/Buxton Road or B5053 Earl Sterndale. Follow the signs for Booth Farm (clearly signposted). As you approach Buxton Raceway, if it's on your left, bear right at the fork in the road and take the next right, then follow signs for the farm. If you come to the racetrack and it's on your right bear left at the fork and follow the signs – make sure to follow the direction signs for Booth Farm, not any other local farms.
