Liked: We had a great stay, welcomed to the site and lots of information of local activities. We did 3 x 5 ish mile walks directly from the site during our stay all across fields with pub stops. Thank you we enjoyed our stay and the location.

Liked: Nice simple site in a lovely location. Good comms from the owner. Close to Tagg Lane Dairy and The Royal Oak at Hurdlow. We walked a route from the site to Lathkill Dale and back. Walking on the road down to Monyash felt pretty dangerous (fast cars and motorbikes not caring to slow down) so we returned using footpaths - some of which were interesting. Site has clean water and elsan disposal. You'll have to be self-contained. Not much else to say really.

Disliked: Grass was a bit long but guess it's kept that way to minimise issues when there is heavy rain.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The view

Disliked: Affriad, the grass was too long, cuttings left so we couldn't play outside without feet getting soaked and can getting caked in wet grass cuttings. Tap hose connector didn't work so we struggled to fill the water tank, getting soaked. While pubs were not far the route was dangerous along roads all the way.

Liked: We stopped for three nights to explore the Peak District the site has really beautiful views lots of space and freedom. The owner was really friendly and gave us some details on the area, we used the Peak District kids blog and found some spots to go exploring. Everything was in an easy drive so it was really handy and we stopped by the local ice cream dairy just up the road from the site. Would definitely visit again.

Local attractions

To take in the Tissington Trail landscapes on two wheels, bicycle hire is 20 minutes’ drive away from the site. Of course, you could walk this 13-mile trail too. Either way, there are plenty of views of the Derbyshire Dales to go around. On your way around Dovedale (25 minutes’ drive), you’ll get to cross stepping stones and enjoy valley views instead. This beauty spot joins a club of local vistas: Chatsworth Estate (20 minutes) is another big one, with the stately home itself and then the gardens and petting farm. To elevate your heart rate some more, Go Ape Buxton (15 minutes) will put your balance to the test with treetop obstacle courses and zipwires to put your feet back on firm ground. While you’re over this way, you might also like to stop by at Poole’s Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes), where there’s a limestone cavern, as well as woodland trails up above. Fancy a walk around a medieval park or a tour of parts of a Tudor mansion? This historic type of stroll is available at Haddon Hall (20 minutes).
